Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

yea i got ripped pretty bad, but hey it happens and now i know lol..

like i said i heard nothing but good things before about this place and thought i would give it a try lol, now i know, never again :P

Cool Tape? what is this? i was thinking about painting it but something that would keep it colder would be best, also i just realized today that it is rubbing against the hood when i close it.. sigh.. nothing but problems, i am gonna have to take it all apart and deal with it somehow, i have some more piping on the way that i could probably pick up a little later, and ill pretty much just rebuild the thing..

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

That's a pretty sweet job Drew!

As Ryan says the metal tubes can really effect the intake temps as the engine heats up. I personally think the metal tubes look awesome though.

Maybe take a bit of care when off-roading though, you don't want that thing to suck up water!

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

okay so i took that shiznit all apart, and pretty much started from scratch, i had a problem with the 90 hitting the black metal bracket, it almost burned a hole into the pipe :O

i will be fully done with the intake tonight, everything will be built and in place, after that is done ill just have to sand and paint it.

what do you guys think?

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

has anyone tried to see if a 4.7 intake would fit on a 3.7?

I can verify 100% that a 4.7 intake WILL WITHOUT A DOUBT fit onto a 3.7 TB. whether it will fit in the engine bay without major mods is another story entirely.

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

Wow, $350 they charged you. I can tell you the parts they used with the filter would be around $75-$100 at the auto store near me I was at the other day. I think you made it look alot better, actually great now. But when you pay that much, more than a K&N CAI costs you would want it looking awesome and actually fitting where its supposed to. That shop blows and they should be shot for actually taking 6 hours to remove your stock air box and piece together a few clamps and pipes. They even hacked off the stock air box ruining it and left the piece in behind the grill. I removed my entire air box system and sold it on ebay for $55 plus shipping.

For a shield I dont know how handy you are but you can always get a piece of flat stock sheet metal, make a bend in it, cut a hole for the tube to fit thru, then secure it to the car with small L brackets. High temp paint it for rust resistance. Basically copy what the K&N shield looks like.

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

Whats the size of that filter, from the pix it looks smaller than my K&N. If they did it right they could of fit a larger filter in I think also. I would really complain and get some money back, go back and show them how you had to fix it at least. If they say oh well, then flip out like I did on the shop that installed my srt exhaust, then get kicked off the property and file a small claims case in court and with the better business bureau.

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

yea i know haha ill clean it once all this running around and switching the pipes around is done..

yea it did cost a lot, but i mean lesson learned haha, and i got a few pipes from them for free from complaining the day after, i was really quite pissed and just could not believe what i saw for that time and money..

i just got in now, and yea i am not gonna lie, i love how it looks right now, i extended it further down and made sure it does not touch the hood when it closes, and does not rub against anything :P

i am just gonna look into another mount to hold the lower end of the intake so it doesn't shake back and forth, once it is all mounted in place and works without any rubbing, i wll take it all apart, and paint each piece, (still thinking of what color) with high temp paint..

Timmy, i agree with you 100%, the parts are a lot more affordable, and it should have not been that much to begin with..

once i have the piping all set, and once i know it runs clean, i will look further into dealing with that air box and see exactly what they did because it is currently sitting in a bag in my garage lol..

and yea hopefully ill be able to put together a shield just like you said, after i know where the piping goes that is

stay tuned for more pictures and more information!

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

I can cut and bend you up a piece of sheet metal for the shield like my K&N. I have a few sheets of it in my basement. The shield just mounts at two places on L brackets, one at the coolant tank holder and one down below the stock air box was mounted to. Where did they relocate your cruise control box thing? On the K&N it mounts right on the side of the shield.

And yea, lesson learned I guess. Lol. If I had known the outcome of what the shop did I would of gone ot the auto store near me, buy the intake tube pieces they sell and fit a nice one for you and shipped it. To me, those pipes and connectors they used are the same thing they have at auto stores.
