Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

It looks like they just cut your stock intake and appears to of left it in there for some odd reason. And the K&N shield bolts down to the area I put a red arrow to.

The K&N shield is just a simple cut sheet of metal flat stock bent with a hole cut out for the tube to fit thru. Can make one up easy.

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

Thanks Irf for your help, but the way i rebuilt my intake, it takes a similar but different path then the k&n :P

i have always enjoyed building little knex roller coasters and little things here and there, so i figured i would do some building of my own in my hood lol!

so here is what the semi finish product looks like with better pictures, just need a bracket near the bottom to keep it from shaking around, and gotta paint the it blue, the blue on the pipe that you may notice, is just a tester color, that's right, blue..

lol timmy, i know exactly what you mean, and i mean you know how i feel now paying that much, waiting that long, and getting.. that..

i appreciate you offering to cut me a piece of metal, but i am sure ill be able to find a good piece at canadian tire, which i will be going to shortly before they close lol, and see what i can find..

that picture of the k&n shield looks really good, and something that i should really follow when doing mine..

yea the shop farked up, they just cut whatever they wanted, it was shit, not cool at all imo haha but what can i do now? other then build this beast and have it really farking loud when i fly by their shop everyday lol ( yea i did it today, they were standing outside )

i wish i had known how to do all this before and i would have for sure asked you for some piping lol, i just hope this helps any 3.7 in the future who wants to make their own intake lol

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

It looks like your filter is down low enough in front where you prob dont need any type of heat shield.

And I just got back from Advanced Auto Parts and the build it yourself CAI basic pipes they have look exactly like the ones you used. A long section with an elbow and rubber connector was $37, and then they sold extra smaller lengths of straight and elbows for about $11 each. They also had a smaller cone filter for $25 but id get the biggest one that would fit, prob a K&N for about $50 i think they go for. I think anyone can pick up the parts and make one themselves if they know how to turn a screwdriver, just have to take some measurements and use your imagination.

I picked up 5 quarts of Mobile 1 synthetic and a Mobile 1 filter for $29.99 on sale, great deal. Its usually $6.99 a quart and $11.99 a filter.

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

If anything you might need some type of shield to keep the rain from getting to it while driving if its stormy out. I've always been paranoid about driving on the highway while its raining out and all the mist getting to the air filter.

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

Thats a whole lot of tubing for nothing....

There comes a point where the extra tubing to reach a colder area where the air is denser (which would make more power) is negated by how long the tubing actually is.

The longer that tubing is , chances are the velocity of the air coming in drops off (surface friction and whatnot), heating up the charge more than it would if the air was coming in faster.

Not to mention it looks like the filter you have there doesn't have filter media on the "top" of the filter, meaning you are not capturing air passing by that portion of the filter at a high rate of speed...

Not hatin', my criticism is purely constructive....I just like to help people go faster.
