There comes a point where the extra tubing to reach a colder area where the air is denser (which would make more power) is negated by how long the tubing actually is.

The longer that tubing is , chances are the velocity of the air coming in drops off (surface friction and whatnot), heating up the charge more than it would if the air was coming in faster.

Not to mention it looks like the filter you have there doesn't have filter media on the "top" of the filter, meaning you are not capturing air passing by that portion of the filter at a high rate of speed...

Not hatin', my criticism is purely constructive....I just like to help people go faster.

I have just the basic cone K&N filter on mine. I was thinking of buying a cone filter that has the top open and pleats on the inside, then running a duct from the air dam on my front bumper then attach it to the "top" of the new filter, so at higher speeds it would force the air into it. Would my PCM adjust to this mod, and at what point would I need other mods like bigger injectors after getting more air into the motor?

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

after taking it apart, sanding, priming, and painting, it looks something like this..

oh yea, and thats right, I CLEANED MY ENGINE BAY! :P

my initial thought when i first saw it was, yea its a little too bright and would be nicer a little darker blue but then i thought hey what the heck, she stands out :P

what do you guys think?

keep in mind i still need to get a filter cover ,and fix up the lower end of the intake because it is not entirely secure..

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

WOW, how did you clean your engine so dam good, please do tell........i want to do mine as well.

And that color on your intake pipe, I wont lie and I think its too light of a blue. If anything I would of went with a dark blue, but I def would of went with a red. And paint the upper sway bar the same color while you are at it, took me 10 min to remove mine then overnight to paint and let it cure then put it back on the next morning and it adds to the look so much for the cost of just primer and paint.

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

Timmy, i really didn't do too much, it is still somewhat dirty on the lower half of the engine bay, but we wont tell anyone about that! lol

all i really did was washed it, i used a brush that i purchased from Canadian Tire to scrub the hard to reach spots, and just did a few times, then my dad had some spray that made it all shiny :P i had it washed, and it looked half decent, then when i went inside to go eat, i guess my dad had his way with it, and i think he used like a wax spray, not sure exactly he has all these cleaning supplies he doesn't let me use lol

yea if i can find a darker blue, maybe ill try it out, i also think its a little light but like i said you get used to it if you look at it everyday haha,

i was looking at the sway while the paint was drying on the intake pipes, and i went to take it out to do exactly what you said, but the ratchet set i have wasn't gripping the nut because it wasn't long enough, i need one of those longer ratchet pieces..

haha thanks b.p.o.d!! that is just what i wanna hear haha!

scott, reset? what you mean reset my jeep lol?

ijeep, i got the parts from the shop i always go to, they were able to order me 3 3" vibrant performance pipes for i think it was $100.00 CAD, which is pretty decent!! i think you can order the parts from the site even

Re: 3.7 custom cold air intake project

I was lucky and my neighbor has a set of large deep sockets I borrowed to get the upper sway bar off. Oh, and if you do ever take it off to paint, be very very careful mounting the cruise control line bracket back on it, I ended up scratching the new paint from putting it back into place on the bar, the bracket fits so tight around the bar I had to force it on then buy a small bottle of flame red touch up paint to fix it, I used the whole can of spray paint so I didnt have any of that left to use.
