Re: 4.0l owners....lets talk power and performance

Question for those with plenty of knowledge with the 4.0..
I have an 88 xj 4.0 which gets veeeery hot! here in chicago we get plenty of humidity (which i don't know if that has an effect on the engines) it tends to overheat and i was wondering if i were to remove the thermostat completly off for a constant flow, will that effect anything else? i don't want the engine to run lean or have any negative effects that will be costly down the road.
Any ideas? i know the best thing to do is to buy a 180 degree for all year round but if i can get away with removing it just for the summer, then that will make my day.
Thanks.

I think you should just put a dual electric fan in it and be done.

Re: 4.0l owners....lets talk power and performance

First off the 4.0l is bullet proof but you not getting any power of it unless u stroke it 4.6l or do what i did and add 100 shot of juice point blank!! i did just about every bolt on made for the thing besides gear and ran 10.52 in the 1/8 mile lol...14.6's in the 1/4 mile with a 90 shot other than that where u getting torque from is beyond me lol...

Its prolly because that 4.0 has the closed cooling system and any xj prior to 92 is known for always running hot and over heating. You would have to convert it to the newer style cooling system, an open system. Which is not cheap but its pretty easy. I hate working on any 4.0 that is not a HO engine. the renix 4.0 is a bitch.
