Iv been searching for headers for my 99 grand cherokee, with no success. I have a flowmaster exhaust and a fipk k&n intake but want more. Any idea on headers or prices on customs please let me know!
Welcome! I have searched for years, and not found any either. Nobody makes them due to the clearance issues. The stock ones seem to work well though, except the damn bolts breaking.
They wont. The drivers side is a traditional log style. The passneger side is a hugger style. That's why no one makes them. For one not enough sales and second is the screwed way thay would have to be designed.
I have sent them info too see what's the deal. If these are obviously right hand drive speciffic then there may be issues. Like the starter may be on drivers side instead of passenger side which obviously would cause clearance issues and they may flat out not fit a US Spec jeep.
I got a response and he has never installed a set, or at least the person who answered my email. They are made for right hand drive and shipping to me is around 200 bucks and he stated that he may have to cut the pipe in order to ship it. Now its a matter of finding if the steering on the drivers side is an issue for us or if they have the starter still on the pass side or if it has been moved to the drivers side which would effect how that side fit as well.
I emailed best mufflers a week ago didnt get any response back i dont know if those headers would work because its a right hand drive everything in the engine compartment is different im going to send another email.
Yea everyone slow down here. This has been done before. Scott got them and never received them, and as far as I know he never found out why. Not worth the risk, and he said they would require mods to get them to fit anyway.
see my memory is still pretty good! I think anytime anyone tries to make a thread about headers for the 4.7 it should just delete the thread and tell them to PM Scott lol.
IF you want headers, It'll require them to be custom one-off headers and look to spend over a grand and not to be able to drive your WK for a couple weeks at minimum.
The bulk of the gains are not in the manifolds like everybody assumes but in the downpipes...snake some 2.25" with a equal merge into a 3" single and watch it run.
When I had my muffler added they stock pipe was distroyed cause they did a terrible job welding in a 2 inch universal muffler so I had them pull everything and do it in 3 inch. WELL worth it, i noticed a 2mpg gain and she was so much more responsive
Richie have you considered 08+ manifolds? Exh manis that is. Ive seen them up close and IIRC they are pretty decent. Lots of material to port them too if there is some mismatch. The only thing I am not 100% sure about is the bolt pattern...but I think they are the same.
Your truck will always shine up top...may as well live with shorter primaries.
I don't think any factory manifold its going to sustain the 20 pounds of boost I can see. I'm loosing power efficiency somewhere and that's the only thing left stock.
I would have to imagine you are meeting or exceeding the flow limitations of the stock manifolds...causing excess heat. At the point your at ANYTHING would be better than nothing.
Id look into the ones that Scott was trying to get, if they just were actually lost in the mail it wouldnt hurt to try, even if they need light modification to get them to work on a left hand drive.
I talked to them before anyone else did. They are for right hand drive. I would have to have them modified so I might as well just have them made right from the get go.
