You don't have to pull front end of these motors off to change cams. Just pull valve covers, line everyhring up to 1 TDC and each cam gear's V8 stamp will be in the 12 O'clock position. Break cam gear bolt loose holding a cam with a pair of pliers, most people use a wedge tool stuffed between the timing chains so that nothing moves. Then remove the 5 cam journal caps (keeping them in order & orientation exactly how they were removed) and remove the cam. Put assembly lube on new cam and install, put cam journal caps back in exact position it cam off and bolt them down in proper sequence and TQ. The cam bolt gets 90 ftlbs and you turn the cam with pliers the get them to line back up with the V8 and the dowel pin in the cam to the cam gear. Repeat on opposite side.

Re: ++++4.7 V8 performance mods++++

So is it required to install beehive springs when doing HO cams?

I would basically be looking to make my gen 1 4.7 feel like the 4.7 HO i drove the other day. To me, it felt comparable to driving a hemi WK or an 08+ 4.7 wk, if not a little nicer then the 08 4.7. Not looking for track times just more umph and fun.

You're feeling the difference in weight more than anything else...

It's not required, but a good idea. Before I sold my truck , if I ended up swapping cams, I intended to do springs as well, if that says anything.

Re: ++++4.7 V8 performance mods++++

It's recommended doing the swap with the HO springs and cams for the NON HO 4.7.

Re: ++++4.7 V8 performance mods++++

I have researched the SUPERCHIPS FLASHPAQ for the wk 4.7 and some shops have said it can actually have loss in torque or hp. I am only going to be pulling snowmobiles is it worth buying if just for performance upgrade

??? Not sure what exactly you are asking but the HO cams improve power across the rpm range.

Email me when you're ready...

Re: ++++4.7 V8 performance mods++++

I have a modified 4.7 on WJ, but I feel like something is missing. My WJ is fun, fast and reliable but I want more. I use my WJ for “desert fun” and occasionally sand drags races.

4.7 Mods:
Race Port/Polish Heads
Custom BIG Manley I/E valves
Comp Cams valve springs, retainers, and locks
218 Cams
Custom + .060 Manley Pistons
Floating Wrist Pins
Forged Crank-(HO)
72MM F&B Throttle Body
32lbs Fuel injectors
Custom Tune

Why 32 lb injectors? You should need 24s at most....
