Well I'm ready to upgrade my Exhaust. Well Mainly the Muffler not a full Cat-back. I want a very deep sound exhaust. I don't want any Flowmasters. I was thinking something from MBRP. I'm getting my Airaid Intake soon so I want a very nice deep sounding exhaust. Like silent on a light throttle and loud on a heavy throttle, if that's possible. I'm going to keep my Resonator on also.
Please help! Post up videos and pictures if you can!
I really like that sound. Is it possible to just get the Muffler instead of the Whole Cat-back? I want to keep that stock tip and resonator to make it look stock. Is there any deeper sounding MBRP Muffler? I remember someone haing a little of a deeper sound with there MBRP.
Deleting the Reso creates Drone. I don't want Drone because I do Highway Driving every weekend. I don't want to have a headache. Lol
I'm still comtempting on the two exhausts. Don't know which to get. I'm leaning more towards the MBRP because of the driving I do. But if I get the Dynamax Muffler and keep the Reso I don't want it to be loud while cruising. Joe is it loud while cruising on the Highway at speeds of 70MPH?
I installed a dynomax bullet muffler per Joe's recommendation but I left the reso on, it sounds great to me, but I do recommend going with the 3" muffler in/out. I was in a hurry and ordered the 2.5" in/out by mistake, and it doesn't feel like it flows as well as it should, ie too much back pressure, if that makes any sense... let me see if I can get a video up on here so you can judge the sound for yourself...
If you want obnoxiously loud, do what I did. Chop off the reso, weld in straight pipe, get a new turn down tip, cut the suitcase muffler and weld the bullet muffler in place. But turn off MDS because it will sound like a helicopter in your Jeep if you dont. LOL
I want it nice and deep sounding. I don't want to wake up the neighbors at night also. So I think I'm going to just buy what you got. I'm waiting for Ahamay115(Chris) to post up a video. I MDS will be turned off .
Why dont you want to just get the muffler? If you dont get an exhaust with a larger diameter piping, then you wasted your money. And I believe the only one with 3'' piping is the MBRP.
And still I think my old Jeep was louder. Ask people on here for real life testimonies. LOL
I have a Diablo Sport so I'm fine! Now you got me thinking Joe. Your right. I would be wasting an Exhaust. I'm confused right now. I just want the Muffler.
So If I get the Dynamax Muffler I would have get a Larger Diameter of piping. Chris said he got the 3"inch In/Out. So I would have to get 3 Inches all the way. Could I keep the Reso also?
Looks like it could provide you with what you're going for...deeper tone.
From my experience, the more you deflect the sound waves, the deeper the tone will be. You mentioned that you don't want a Flowmaster...well, one of the deepest tones I ever achieved was using the 70 Series SUV in conjunction with 3" mandrell bent Mike Leach piping on my old WJ. That was a great sounding, low rumbling exhaust!
Stuff to consider (from my personal experience): pipe diameter larger = louder; muffler design...more area inside the muffler = greater sound deadening and a 'deeper' tone...likewise, increased surface area (chambers/baffles/perforations, etc.) = 'deeper' sound; going from single to dual pipes = deeper sound
Also, straight-through round designs will generally have a higher pitch than their baffled/chambered oval counterparts, for the gases spend less time in the muffler and the surface area is minimal.
A muffler that I would like to see someone test is a Hooker Aero...it should produce a deep, low rumble, while maintaining optimal flow characteristics.
I am getting a lot of useful info from this thread. I've been kicking around the idea of running an SRT exhaust (resos only) and losing the spare and the trailer hitch. I'm just worried that the tips will hang too low because the bumper isn't as low as an SRT
You will need the mounting plate for the SRT where the pipes exit in the center. If you want to keep your trailer hitch, you will have to notch the SRT plate's outer bolt holes to accept the trailer hitch plate and mate them together. That way, you have the mounting brackets for the center tips/pipes. The tips will hang just low enough to be out of the way of the hitch. I am planning on doing this...right now I just have the SRT plate in place and have removed the hitch. At some point I'm going to want the use of the hitch and will need to modify the SRT plate as previously stated.
Since you don't have headers, I would swap the stock muffler out for the magnaflow unit with internal x-pipe. It will even out the flow to both pipes. You won't like the reso only mod, for you'll lose some low end grunt and gain some top end power...not good for rock crawl'n or daily driving.
The Magnaflow will help in the HP and TQ department as well as with the sound. The stock suitcase limits the flow to the passenger side exit pipe (only cold air comes out), due to the chambering/baffles.
Hope that helps...
