Re: 6.1L Swap - Need Some Help!

i would have to make a call but we do 6.1 conversion upgrades all the time. We do the ecu and the tcm conversion upgrades. we have put many 6.1 srt8 motors in 6 cylinder challengers and chargers but the 426 hemi is easier.

We are putting an srt8 6.1 and driveline into a 2009 se challenger and a 70 cuda this week. We have all of the tcm and ecu electronics.
We are putting a new srt8 6.1 into a 68 charger tonight and we have all the electronics for that.

Of course I live less than 10 miles from Pick a part, summit racing, mr. gasket, accell, stainless works, corsa, mickey thompson, goodyear nascar research, bigshot dyno, pcm 4 less. And I have a garage out back with three lifts and two dyno jet dynomometers. And my local dodge jeep dealer lets me pilfer his spare tcm and ecu units whenever i want.

Otherwise.... we dyno tune the 3.7 ecu and bench flash them. nos it up and tune it. If you kill her then try the big transplant!

Re: 6.1L Swap - Need Some Help!

can you SCT tune? I have a gen 2 4.7 stroked to a 5.7 with many forged componets...can handle 30 psi if F/I. How big a shot of nitrous can I add and what kit should I get...theoretically?

Re: 6.1L Swap - Need Some Help!

I say go for the 6.1 swap. I would look for a complete wrecked SRT8 though to get your motor from and swap parts off of. When you buy a motor off of eBay or anywhere else, you don't know what parts may be missing or damaged, and it's nice to be able to take them off so you can see where they go back.

Re: 6.1L Swap - Need Some Help!

Seriously man I think we've all been where you are with wanting to do something unique and awesome with your ride. This isn't a rip at you, but I'd be willing to guess that you are young and inexperienced with vehicles. If you look on here you will see that there are alot of people trying to help you out and save you wasted money, time and headaches. Learn from other people's accomplishments and mistakes. I foresee that you will not heed anyones advice and will wind up wasting money and time with only a bitter feeling when you are stuck with a build that will be unfinished and leave you wanting to scrap the project. I've been in the same boat you are now, and after wasted money and time it took me awhile before I wanted to even put a K&N on any other vehicle I had because I was so pissed at myself for being bull headed about vehicle. There are reasons guys are telling you to save your money and opt for the SRT. I love my Overland and am on a budget myself, but still. If you want the awesomeness, start off on the pinacle platform of Jeep performance and looks. You never know, but you may get a stock SRT and be content with that kind of package if you're used to driving you 3.7. I hope that your build works out for you totally. Hell I'd like to see you shoehorn a Viper V10, but there are just some reasons why Daimler/Chrylser engineers designed certain vehicles for certain things.

Re: 6.1L Swap - Need Some Help!

If you need inspiration, go to a good Chevy (S10 works well, as well as the full size trucks) forum and look at the engine swaps being done. There are guys running twin turboed LS1s in AWD Typhoons (older model S10 Blazer), silverado 1500s with everything from LQ4 6.0L to LS7/9 swaps.
Granted GM computers are a little easier to work with, and parts are a little more available and therefore cheaper.
I also have an '09 Dodge Ram 1500, and most of the Dodge truck forums I got to people are worried about wether putting an aftermarket muffler on will void their warranty or not. That seems to be the general attitude from the newer model Mopar crowd (if it's not a factory option obviously it shouldn't be done or they would have), and may be the reason WHY there are less performance parts available for Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler vehicles.

Re: 6.1L Swap - Need Some Help!

Well I'm sure he's got inspiration. However you're talking fillet mignon GM parts in different GM bodies. Granted it seems everyone makes some kind of 350 frankenstien swap for whatever vehicle. But it'll probably be the biggest PITA conversion given the nature of the WK and its oh so lovely electrical system. I do wish there were more aftermarket support for Dodge/ Jeep/ Chrysler platforms like you see with Ford and GM.

Re: 6.1L Swap - Need Some Help!

Thats the only real issue I think that stops everyone. Im willing to look into it and ask around. I dont see why I cant get past it. I mean, shoot I can brand new everything, dont see why I need to keep anything OEM from jeep as far as sensors and tunign goes. Chevy seems to be a favorite now and its def best bang for my buck performance/driveability wise. No need to do a 6.1L swap and pay for that motor when I can get the same performance for half price and much more knowledge about doing the swap is available for the other platforms. Those guys in S-10s are crazy, going 8s and 9s with no more than like $15k total haha. gotta love those light ass trucks. I'm going to be talking to those guys as well. Gotta love having a lot of knowledge and a big network on the net, makes things much easier!
