ok guys here is the deal. This can be done if you already have the k+n intake or if you have the stock air tube and want to get rid of your air res box...

go to your local stealership and ask then for part number : 53013907AB (tube from 09 liberty cost $35)

The wire for the IAT sensor is not long enough. You also want to use the sensor from your jeep not the one that comes with the new tube.

you can use 18 gauge wires and solder them to make an extension for the plug.(pics to come when i actually do this)

marlon was the first person on this site to do it that i am aware of. People with nitro's and liberty's also do this to get rid of the air res. i did not come up with this idea.

edit: i am also thinking of getting a piece of tubing to replace the accordion style pipe in-between the k+n pipe and the liberty tube

I am adding my k+n short ram intake today and will hopefully have this installed as well...

Ok you can do mine for me when I get it Irf... LOL

well mostly all cai, short rams connect their air pipe directly to the throttle body. for whatever odd reason k+n decided for 3.7 models they will not do this!

This should give you slightly better throttle response, mostly it allows better air flow into the throttle body. The air doesn't circulate in the air res before going to the throttle body!

so that K&N kit only connects to the reso?
yes!!!

Do you have dyno sheets to back this up? Lol, jk. Looks good. But if someone already has the K&N CAI and gets the Liberty tube you say, the K&N tube wont fit to the new Liberty tube and another section of tube will need to be bought and added? I sold my stock intake so I dont have the accordian type tube anymore.

you can also buy a silicone elbow and one small piece of straight piping for this. The Liberty pipe and accordian tube seems a little gaudy IMHO.

same as you do with the liberty pipe and acccordian...right? The accordian could be considered a restriction and then the liberty pipe looks smaller than the K&N piping...that could be a problem too????

So has anyone tried to fit a 4.7 k+n on a 3.7? I'd try it except my bank accounts low at the moment lol and will be for another while.

So all we have is a probably but nothin definate. I was gona try swappin with Troy except he never messages back

the only problem I see with the 4.7 K&N fitting the 3.7...is those metal AC lines just below the accordian tube in the first posts pics. Its hard to say if the 4.7's tube would clear those.

Here's a question, if removing the resinator and having the tube go directly to the intake does make a difference, wouldnt K&N make it that way?

And I saw they sell "ram air" intakes in a Mustang magazine I have, which is basically a plastic duct that goes in the front bumper with an accordian tube to a cone filter that has the pleats on the inside also thru the top as well as on the outside surface. Its marketed as forcing more air into the filter at speeds therefore increasing HP. Is this true? Is this how a turbo works? If there is more air isnt more fuel needed also, meaning changing out injectors and fuel rails? I guess what im asking is how much more air can you allow or "shove" into the motor before other mods are needed as well to compensate?

acid, is that on yours? where did you find the airaid piece?

maybe it is just me but after seeing this mod and comparing it to the alternative with the intake and stock resonator..... I like the stock look with the intake. I know it is probably a little better as far as performance and efficiency to delete the resonator but i think the look with the stock airbox is cleaner than without it. JMO i guess. I do like the creativity tho with using that intake tube from airaid

I haven't had time to finish extending that sensor so i have stuffed it in between the tubes by the rubber coupler. It does the job so i haven't pushed the extension process.

Not sure if it will work with the K&N to be honest, i think the airaid is about 3''? would have to remove it to measure it.

B.P.O.D. - I have an 06 3.7 GC. Eventually I would like to install a K&N 63 series CAI. I would like to also remove the resonator with this modification. Are you guys still going with this process? Any changes/suggestions? I'm not sure if you have the answer but would 06 GC and liberty parts match like you found with the 09? Also, did you ever post pics of your installation?
Thanks
