Mike at Bwoody perfromance has agreed to develop a TRUE CAI for the 4.7 V8 WK.
http://www.jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=892

I believe the CAI would work on the 3.7 V6 as well...but we need some confirmation. I need a 4.8 V8 owner with the K&N Intake to meet up with a 3.7 V6 owner and see if the 4.7 K&N works on the V6. That should be proof enough. provide pics etc.

All interested in a TRUE CAI for their WK.....POST HERE NOW!
Price would be between $300 and $369. Bwoody also needs a volunteer near Edgewood, Maryland for test fitament etc. Please apply within---LOL

Matt,

It's about 20 or 25 miles north of Baltimore up 95. Around Emmorton Rd and 95.

Thanks,
Tom.

Where's edgewood at? I'm in montgomery county maryland, and i just so happen to have a 4.7 wk.

for me, I need to see real data compare against my K&N on a 4.7 before I do anyhting. My K&N comes witha dyno chart.

also, there are at least 3 know cases on srt8's of hydrolock motors when you TRUE COLD AIR CAI sucks water and hydrolocks the motor.

to be fair, i also found an instance of hydrolock witha AFE too.

Always my concern when it comes to any intake that has any possibility for water contact with where i live. Engine compartment gets soaked at times. I am interested but hesitant.

A K&N Drycharger works wonders and is cheap insurance. Now if you drive into 2 1/2 ft of water you're on your own.

That would be my suggestion to anyone concerned of water in the intake.

First of all you need to really soak an oiled filter to get it to suck up water, (i dunno what filter bwoody uses but i prefer K&N filters)

But adding a dry charger to it (usually offered with the places that sell bwoody intakes) then your good to go unless you plan on water fording. And if you live in a high flood area and drive through deep water on flood days, your just an idiot any way.

Does the Bwoody intake cone sit any lower then any other brand of filter? Where it would be more likely to get wetter vs say a K&N?

I for one am not worried at all about hydrolocking if I get this CAI. You can see how low my Mazda 6 is (other cars forum) and the filter of the AEM CAI is probably about 8-10 inches from the ground inside the drivers side fender, maybe even lower I will have to double check! ... Anywho.. I have never had a single issue with water in over 3 years of driving it with the CAI, you just have to have a different mindset when driving in the rain and through water.

I have also seen these mesh, net looking bags that go over the filter that are supposed to help with keeping dirt and water out of the filter, although I have never used one.

Well sometimes you go through low parts of your neighborhood that may have 2 feet of water to get to your house to sleep at night or do whatever you do at home. Its what happens when there's only one way to get to the house. Reasons for actions. :thumbsup:But i cant say its a regular occurrence.

i've signed up to be the guinea pig. stay tuned, after august 9th, i will have pics, vids and reviews of the performance adds.

My WK is BONE stock... i figure this will help them get a better gauge of the performance additions.

yup, 'tis I!

I have yet to hear back from Mike, he is really busy at the moment, i gather. But i am planning on dropping it off on Aug 4th, and getting it back the 9th. expect a full write up on how it is no later than the night of the 10th.

Scott has this been confirmed to work no problems on the 3.7 as well, or are we still waiting on some people to swap and see..?

If there's anyone with a 4.7 in San Antonio I will be more than willing to see if a 4.7 CAI fits mine.

#23 ·
it will be a wait and see unless someone with a 3.7 wants to go by bwoody after he gets it mocked up. I'm pretty confident it will be the same

Is this going to be limited to the WK platform? I don't remember if the air intake system is on the same side on WJ version of the 4.7 as it is on the WK version (drivers side on the WJ).

In anycase I would be ready to purchase one as soon as its available.

If I can provide any help I would be more then happy to, as I worked with K&N on the development of their FIPK for the 3.5L Inline 5 on the Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon so I am famliar with data logging things such as the ST and LT fuel trims, etc. (It only took 5 revisions before we got to the production design :) )

still waiting!!! aaaagagagagaga

me too....LOL. This K&N is ok....but its really noisey. I thought maybe something was loose....so i checked everything. I guess I was used to the whisper quiet AFE. I can feel more mid range power though.

#32 ·
What makes you think the Bwoody will be any less loud?

The AFE is silent but only because it re uses the muffler. I took that out and its just as loud as any K&N,

The Bwoody is going to be a similar design to the K&N only the filter will be lower and the tube will be longer.

What filter does Bwoody use and will it come with a precharger cone cover?

the little flimsy box attempt is what I dont like about the K&N, plus all the crazy nuts and bolts that are used
