I went to get my brakes checked today because they were squeaking, pulsating, and just felt weird... There I was told my brakes were warped and I needed all new rotors and pads... the quoted $650 which i think is wayyy to much...

What kind of brakes and pads do you guys recommend?

I got my new rotors and pads from R1 Concepts.

Premium Slotted on the front and Premium Solid on the rear with Hawk HPS pads all round.

I'd certainly recommend them...

The pulsating feel you are describing is a sign your rotors are warped tho so new discs will be required.

Linky

They are traders on here IIRC, so have a look for a discount code...

They do bite a lot better so I'd say so yes, although the previous discs/pads were absolutely screwed.

I'd recommend a PowerStop rotor and pad kit from brakemotive76 on eBay. Bought mine from them and have loved them ever since. I'm sure R1 is a good company too!

Anything is better than what you have now Hector. Even new, smooth OEM style rotors will be better.

You have Teves calipers. Akebono calipers started to be used mid production year in 2002. I have an 02 with some of the last Teves calipers right before the switch.

Whatever you do stick with Smooth rotors. I decided to go with slotted on all 4 despite being told by Hannes to go with smooths. Now I'm dealing with brake squeal majority of the time I apply the brake (which defeated the purpose as to why I changed them out). I went with R1, but like I said stick with Smooth rotors, you have been advised .

Hey Marty how is the setup with slotted on the fronts and smooth on the rear?

Charlie, my setup works pretty well IMO.

I'd recommend smooth rotors too if you want the quietest breaking experience, but mine don't squeal - isn't that caused by the lack of copper grease on the back of the pad?

Sometimes the first could of times you I the breaks the fronts make a little noise but as soon as they get a bit of heat it disappears.

I only got slotted for the front and not all round as the back breaks don't get stressed as much and think it looks kinda OEM...

EDIT: Click here, to see/purchase the new Akebono calliper kit - rotors are not included, just pads.

If you wanna do some kinda performance looking rotor Hector, I would do drilled only. Thats what I have. And I like them. The aren't as quiet as a smooth, OEM style rotor, for who knows what reason. So if you want super quiet braking, then smooth it is. Mine makes kind of a "whirrie" sound when slowing down from say 45, and it gradually fades away the slower the rotor turns.

Ohh..and you're welcome Mon! ;)

It really boils down on what u are looking for, u will get different answers with different set-ups. I like the Drilled n Slotted because of the looks and doesnt warp as easily as the OEMS with the Teves calipers, some like the smooth ones because its quiet, some like the slotted ones only and on and on and on.... so many reasons why we put what we put as our rotors, bottom line is which do you prefer?
