Re: BBK Performance Throttel Bodies (85mm and 90mm)

Just to bump this again, if you order from http://www.wundercarparts.com

They have it for 429.00 shipped.. And an online code of ONLINE to save 25 bucks on the order...

But if you call them, you can haggle with them, once they have it in stock, might be able to get it for under 400... But as mentioned above, it doesnt look like they will have any in stock until about the second week in March

Those numbers are just for the TB as they said the test Charger already had the CAI on it beforehand in the video. The 20 hp increase is peak difference, and is only at around 4000 rpm, and more like 10 or less for the rest of the range. The torque numbers really improve across the board though and torque really improves drivability, tip in throttle response, passing power, etc.. more than HP. Price with tax and shipping we are looking at $500 for a 5.7, which ain't cheap.

Re: BBK Performance Throttle Bodies (85mm and 90mm)

Let us know how it works out; Fastman Dan said he CNC ports the stock 5.7 TB for $100 so I'm going to try that out.

Re: BBK Performance Throttle Bodies (85mm and 90mm)

Received my 85mm TB last weekend, installed in like 10 minutes. I personally feel it has added more power, but have no accurate way to measure it ( and I have driven it for about 200 miles so the computer has learned it by now. Throttle response is better, but still a lag compared to stock TB. Pedal doesn't have to be pressed as far to floor for good acceleration, and TB probably is allowing as much air as the engine wants at wide open throttle. I have Volant CAI, and canned Diablo 93 tune loaded right now. To benifit more, I should next be working on exhaust (headers and cat back, as a lot of air can now get in the engine, time to upgrade so it can get out). As a note, when I removed the old TB, you can see the huge exaust gas recirculation tube blocking airflow behind the TB inside the intake manifold. Has anyone cut down this tube shorter to reduce the air flow restriction? Did it affect any codes or emissions readings?

Re: BBK Performance Throttle Bodies (85mm and 90mm)

So on the 6.1L, the intake manifold will take an 85mm TB without requiring any porting. Anything larger, you'll need the intake ported to accommodate. I'm not 100% certain on the 5.7L engine. I know on the LXs, the intake is plastic so that's a problem for porting

I've been told (again, I have a 6.1L so that's the caveat here) that just slapping on a TB will not bring you a big bang for the buck unless you can handle the added airflow. This means heads+cam+headers to really get the full potential out of the larger TB. I have to find my post on the red site where I explain the 'bottleneck' theory.....brb.

Nice to see a 4.7 and 4.0 option on BBK's site!

Re: BBK Performance Throttle Bodies (85mm and 90mm)

OK, found it.
Peter's 3th Law of Modding
Quote:
Don't forget that you can't just ADD up the extra HP claims [from each mod] and expect to get that totaled output. Performance mods are not always cumulative because independently they may benefit the motor to some measurable extent but some other part is creating a bottleneck that robs that extra power.

A hypothetical example:
A CAI adds 10HP to our 420hp SRT8 so you're now at 430hp; cam adds 20hp so logic says you're at 450hp; heads bump another 30hp so you're at 480hp! But the headers can only support enough airflow to make 450hp so when you dyno the vehicle, you get 450hp not the expected 480hp.

So you say OMG! and upgrade the headers to get +35hp but when you dyno it now, you're making 475hp instead of an expected 485hp! WTF? Oh, the heads can only support airflow to make 475hp so . . .

Make sense? There's always something else that's limiting the power output and you may not be able to upgrade or work your way around it.
