Question Best cone air filter?

So which one is the best? I have seen people rave Amsoil dry filters, I have used K&N's in the past with success, and my current airaid filter seems to be doing its job...

I need to clean my fitler and was thinking about getting a new one if the reasoning is there...any suggestions?

I also want to get a matching "little" filter and eliminate the stock breather tube that runs across the engine bay (looks a lot cleaner IMO). Please post specs and/or links of these little filters, and here are the specs on my airaid filter

Airaid #028-700-458

Universal Cone Air Filter
7'' Base w/Short Flange
4-5/8'' Top
7'' Height
4'' Flange

Re: Best cone air filter?

When I was doing research into a DIY CAI I found S&B Filters (http://www.sbfilters.com/Store/Universal-Filters).

This page - http://www.sbfilters.com/Support/Why-S-B has some good marketing as to "WHY" S&B is better.

That S&B is still an oiled filter, skip all of that hassle & go to a dry filter. The Amsoil EAA dry media, besides being less maintenance, is a better filter. It can be cleaned with low pressure compressed air or a shop vac, then simply reinstalled. It is guaranteed for 4-years/100,000 miles. When you do the math it may also be the cheapest filter on the market.

The Amsoil uses synthetic media known as Nano-Fibers. This technology is also used in heady duty trucks, off road construction equipment & the US military. Most notably this technology is used in the M1 Abrams tank. Quite simply nothing filters like this.
The charts below compare Amsoil's EAA filters to oiled cotton guaze (K&N & others) and traditional cellulose (paper) filters. Also I will throw in a marketing video!

Re: Best cone air filter?

A wet guaze (AKA oiled) filter like the K&N or the S/B by what I gained from their videos, has to be cleaned with a solution & then reoiled, both of those add to the cost of the filter. Also as a former K&N user/owner, I know that it takes quite abit of time to wash that filter out, wait for it to dry, and then reoil it properly w/o over oiling or not getting enough oil on it to make it catch the dirt. They don't send a training video on how to oil it the right way? I know I over-oiled mine regularly and did have some sensor issues as a result. This was about 15 years ago in a TPI GM motor, I know some of the Mass air sensors on Ford motors saw this as well. If you didn't have enough oil on, then you risked dirt not being caught in the filter.

Dry media filters are ready re-install immedietly, and are going to catch dirt correctly, without risk of the owner screwing it up.

Re: Best cone air filter?

Ridin' Around,

I need your help...I want to get an inverted cone filter. It needs to have a 4" flange ID, Media height + flange length =< 9"...the closest one I can find is EaAU4090, but that has a media height + flange length = 10.75" (if I am reading it correctly)...the other is EaAU4178 but that has a 4.125" flange ID and is not an inverted cone.

I really want to get one of these filters so your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Brad

EDIT - It looks like the EaAU4075 will fit...4" flange ID with Media + Flange = 9"...it is not a inverted cone on the top and it seems like that would be an advantage, am I correct? My current filter is 6" wide and is up against the side of the heat shield...I see that EaAU4091 is an off-set flange but is too wide (6.75") and too long overall (almost 11").

Here are the largest dimensions I can fit - Media Length + Flange Length =<9.2", Flange ID = 4", Base media width =<6" OR 8" if flange off-set....IDK it doesnt look like anything will work...again I plead for your assistance. FYI I have the AIRAID intake set-up, here is a pic

As you can see there is def some room in there, but the current filter is up against the back of the heat shield.

The 4075 has a flat black top, I want one like these
