I'm confused. What is this thing you're calling a resonator under your hood? I thought resonators were in the exhaust system.

Re: Better "Performance" removing the air intake resinator or not?

The black box that the intake tube goes into on the top of the engine in front of the sway bar.

Re: Better "Performance" removing the air intake resinator or not?

Don't some K&N intake models delete this box?

Re: Better "Performance" removing the air intake resinator or not?

And then thats back to my question, if K&N felt removing the resinator on a 3.7 gives it more HP wouldnt they sell the tube that deletes it?

I am also puzzled as to why they wouldn't remove the reso. Perhaps noise? I don't think the reso helps build vacuum like a air filter box potentially could....

Could also be an issue of cost vs benefit. using the short tube is cheaper and more cost-effective to them than the whole CAI deal.

Good points, but I dont buy it, Lol . For one I dont think there would be anymore noise than on there other kits on cars that delete the reso, like on other GC's that have the full tube. And two have you ever seen the K&N tube, its just a cheap piece of plastic that once you make the mold for it you can crank out tubes for pennies in a sweat shop in Mexico for the cost of just the plastic. When i first got my CAI kit i was pissed, and would of made my own for 2/3rds the cost from plumbing supplies and a K&N cone filter.

Im thinking Scott maybe right, maybe it doesnt make any difference so no need to remove it. Im wondering now, to the people that have deleted the resinator is there REALLY a noticable difference in performance or is just louder? Im happy with how it sounds right now, at start up it really sounds cool. True story, I got back in my car and started it at a store and some kids hanging around outside asked me if my car was supercharged, im guessing because of the sucking noise the cai makes. I told them "not yet", lol.

Re: Better "Performance" removing the air intake resinator or not?

And im realizing the heat shield sold with the CAI intakes doesnt really do much. From my research every 10 degree drop in intake temp makes 1% more HP, which is nothing if you think of it. Is it simply for marketing purposes? I do notice my car "appears" more peppy in colder weather like now.
