Time slips added post #1 ^^^

Wise words in this thread
I was thinking the same thing about the tune today when I was at the track.. I picked up some decent numbers but right were they should be for this tune: extra power that still feels proper for a DD.

Comparing a gasser to a diesel is an apples to oranges comparison.

The dyno numbers do not tell the whole story. These Jeeps (WJs too) consistently put down low numbers on the dyno. I believe it's from the transfer case- for whatever reason this problem does not really plague the ZJ.

The more I think about it, the better Blackpepper's tune is. I'm assuming the gas in use out there is E10 (10% ethanol), which is different requirements compared to straight pump gas. On straight pump gas, you can get away with running a 12.8 or so AFR and be in the safe zone, but on E10 you want it in the low 12's to keep it happy. Ethanol requires more fuel to complete the combustion process.

Another thing to consider is that this CMR tune is for 91 octane. There's no 93 out in CA. Definitely leaving some timing on the table.

It was 75* or hotter on those runs and right before my first elimination run a Mustang blew a piston (too lean/supercharged) so the track had to be scrubbed. That took a long time so I had a ton of time to let the engine cool more as the sun had already set.

The track cleaned up, I staged and left the tree but I forgot to hit the tow/haul and esp buttons yet still managed to run a 14.67... I didn't even get close to my dial in time even though the temps had already dropped down to 63* ... needless to say, I'll be back to the track again to get some low-temp-runs that should yield sub 14.53 times

BP (What's your name? Ryan, right?) , I'd be curious to see what your corrected times are like.

By all means call me Ryan.

I had Elvis correct the times for me while I was at the track and I think it corrected to a 14.39...

CORRECTED for what? unless your high in elevation ... your truck ran what it ran... Sorry but i just don;t get into the whole "Corrected" math. Now if your trying to compare times from one guy in Colorado and another guy at sea level, then maybe i could understand it.... But basically your truck ran the 14.53

Oh and remember time is dependant on your ability put the power to the ground...suspension, tires, your driving. Mph shows your hp.....

Corrected for Density altitude.

DA correction is a very accurate science- as a Commercially licensed pilot I can tell you that it's very real. Different weather, even at the same elevation, will lead to different takeoff/landing distances, climb/descent figures, etc etc etc.

As far as records go, your truck runs whatever it runs, but corrected times are excellent for figuring out how much a given modification helped or hurt, etc.
