The guy at the shop yesterday when I had my muffler installed said he could do a custom exhaust including headers for like 1200 which suprised me. He said one of his buddies knows someone who does custom headers. It seems like a good price for a custom set of duals and headers but he's not a Jeep guy so im guessing hes not too familiar with how hard it is to make headers and run pipes under the WK. I wouldnt mind throwing some headers on and custom duals if I would see some major gains in HP but it seems it might be too much for such a small engine.
No im asking how realistic that exhaust and price sounds. I just had a Magnaflow thrown on. The price seems a little low I think he might have underestimated the work needed to make custom headers and duals for a 4.7 WK, I only know of a handful of people who have ever attempted either.
Did he specify what kind of design? What diameter primary's? collector size? Material of the piping? Thickness of the flanges? Get these important details before you just fork over the cash. Frankly 1200 sounds cheap for a full exhaust.
I havent crawled under a 4.7 WK but I do know that a 4.7 WJ is VERY cramped. I couldn't even get my exhaust guy to fab up a new downpipe for me (we instead welded in some metallic cats and opened up the Y-merge to 3") . I know on the WK the Y pipe is supposedly different/better (how I am not sure) but I wouldn't expect the WK engine bay to allow much room for headers in the midst of other stuff.
The stock exhaust manifolds actually flow very well, at any rate. Be best off hacking up the Y pipe to weld in a X or H, doing duals and having both sides exit on the passenger side (assuming no room to do a equal length pipe on the drivers side) .
Yeah I would like duals and and an X pipe but i'd only run duals if I could run them out opposite side for the look otherwise i dont think the power gains would be worth all that money.
