Which would be my best option for maximum air flow while still passing inspections?

Thunderbolt was suggested but I saw a poll on a Chevy forum that had 10xs more votes for Magnaflow.

Whichever would give me the best results. Ryan suggested the Thunderbolt in the first place so I think that'll be the one to go with :D

People suggest Magnaflow because of the name. I've used both. Thunderbolt is 1/3 the price of the equivalent carsound (magnaflows cat line) cat, with no discernable difference in flow.

Perfect. Thunderbolt it is

just remember you have to buy 2 cats!!! i was going to do this as well. there is a pretty big thread for it... i opted not to do it. not really worth it. get a exhaust first (just hte muffler) the full cat back exhaust keeps the same size piping so it's not worth getting.

A chains only as strong as it's weakest link and an exhaust system can only use as much diameter as it's thinnest point so unless the ENTIRE system can be widened without having to do a ton of crazy custom stuff I see no point.

Makes sense, why spend money to replace perfectly functional parts with something that won't have any better results :D

I didn't even really research my options as far as exhaust. My friend offered me his at a great price and I jumped on it while I had the chance. Same thing with buying the Jeep. Great price at Carmax, very low miles, didn't seem to be many other good options in my opinion so I bought it the day after first seeing it. In both cases my uninformed buys just happened to work out perfectly thank god!

Thanks, liking it here. Much less trashing of 3.7s here, when I've asked elsewhere I've just gotten "Dude its a 3.7, you wont get anything out of it anyways." CAI+Exhaust=+2-3 mpgs so far in addition to better throttle response, quicker takeoffs, louder exhaust, and overall more powerful feel...case in point.

well.....for one thing an aftermarket exhaust will smooth out the crazy factory bends and offer a better flowing muffler. Smoother bends equals smoother flow and better pressure. Or second....any good muffler shop can bend up a larger diameter, smoother flowing exhaust for cheaper than any aftermarket bolt on exhaust. So being general and posting on here without any knowledge of the truth is not being informative or helpful. Telling every 3.7 that comes on here that a complete catback is not gonna be as good as just bolting on a muffler is not entirely the best advice. Now if you had numbers and experience to back up the claims...that would be a different story. A muffler on a stock exhaust is not gonna add any power, pressure or flow. Just noise. Of course you need more air coming in the front end to optimize any catback exhaust.

This is just my 2 cents. Not trying to be harsh...but this site is about trying to get to the best info available.

interesting... i am only talking about hte magnaflow catback http://magnaflow.com/02product/displayapplications.asp?partnumber=16834 i am almost 100% positive that the bends are the same as the stock. timmyb is the only person that i know that has the full catback and i believe he stated it was the same shape/bends as the stock.. I could be totally wrong and that would be great knowledge to know... hopefully timmy chimes in... he was the one who told me not to buy the full catback and that it wasn't worth it

Thought it was 2.5? Keep getting mixed up! Didn't buy my muffler from a store so I don't remember. I'll try to look it up in the manual.
