Catch Can Recommended?

Should I install a Catch Can in my Jeep? Is it really necessary? I know for the SRT-8's you should get one. I just want to know if it would help catch the oil in my 5.7L or any of the 4.7L & 3.7L.

Where could I buy a good quality one?

I agree. I have a 2010 with the 5.7 and one of the first things installed was a catch can. It has already collected a good amount of oil.

YES...you'll be amazed at how much oil is deposited into the can.

From all the catch can posts i have read and the oil they collected in just a 1k miles... i was shocked how bad it really is. DEFINITELY get one!

has anyone installed a catch can for a 4.7L jeep

Billet Tech for sure.

5.7l application information

I installed mine with their new "Z" bracket. For a 5.7, the bracket needs to be ground down a little to clear the copper pipe and the can needs to be loosened from the "Z" bracket in order to empty it. That's the only downside. If you mount it anywhere else there's usually enough room to get your hand under the can itself to remove the lower half.

i made a cheap catch can for less than 15 bucks. i used an inline air compressor filter from lowes. its clear, the canister unscrews, and also has a stopcock on the bottom to drain it if needed. very easy and simple, anc cheap!
I've played with these, and don't recommend them. Depending on the motor/application it causes the crankcase to be overpressurized. This can cause leaks. A buddy of mine's LSX-based 402 CID stroker motor had one of these, and made his rear main seal leak.

i had one on my 500hp turbo G35, as well as several dozen other boosted VQ35 owners, for 3 years and it worked great. just giving a cheap alternative.

dont know how it would cause that. its a completely open design with a small cannister to collect fluid. that is all a catch can does. nothing special or scientific. what i did do, is remove the actual filter that is included, just leave it open.

i highly doubt thats what made the rear main seal leak on a 402CI LSX stroker motor. how did he narrow it down to the catchcan again?

you cant bblock off the egr without the correct plate and custom tuning. There re plenty of 5.7's with catch cans

scott this is right from billet technology's website but it is good to know because i dont want to do that anyway

Check out the new Z Mount Billet Tech Catch Can Mount. This bracket makes accessing your catch can a breeze. Works with your 6.1 Hemi including the Jeeps GC SRT8. Also works with the 5.7 Hemi's but only with the Billet Tech EGR Block off (product code 5007) 05-08 only. Catch can not included. Will not work with 5.7 Factory Engine Cover Installed!!!!!!!!!!

For the 5.7L HEMI, I bought an "L" bracket at Home Depot (about 5.5-6" on each leg). Drill new hole and mount to the right rear engine brace bolt. The top is cut off at about 4.5 - 5" and the Billet Technolgy bolts to it in a 1/2" hole. Need to buy correct mounting bolt.

Mine collected 1/4" of oil in a 250 mile highway trip. Just checked it yesterday (again), but not much collected this time, just a covering of the bottom.

I cleaned the throttle body when I installed it. Will see if the throttle body stays cleaner, because I cleaned it at 32K and 52K miles and it was filthy both times.

Any catch can can be made to work on the 5.7L, so long as you can find a way to mount it and use the right size fittings and hose to connect it to the PCV valve and intake.
