Re: CMR Tunes...

I have to say lol. I can spin my tires reallll hard with this ported tb and my heavy ass 22's with Nitto NT555's. A couple days ago my buddy wanted me to take him for a ride since i installed the ported throttle body and ask me to see if i can spin them. And it was done with ease. lol

Ok back on topic CMR

Re: CMR Tunes...

Hey guys sorry I've been in and out the last few weeks. The main reason Joe's runs better that Jeremy's is that Joe purchased our ultra deluxe tune and Jeremy got our reg tune. Just kidding Jeremy. First remember one thing there's always a few vehicles with the same mods and so on that always seem to run a little better. And sometimes we never really figure out why. It's like the old saying you don't want the one built on Friday. Ryan bought up a lot of good points which some of it I'll be repeating. And Ryan no worries on stepping on toes as it' nice to have all the good input. Ok some of the different times could come from race weight. A 100lbs can add or subtract 1 tenth to your time, that's why you see people at the track pulling floor mats, cargo mats anything and everything they can get rid of. Taller tires can also make a different. Then are the mods really the same. Do both of the exhaust flow the same. What kind of coolant temps are they running. And one place that Ryan and Joe noticed was the CAI. Joe with his setup is pulling cooler air and the IAT is moved down to read the cooler air. So Jeremy's PCM could me pulling some timing. Now if Joe's a little lighter, if his exhaust flows a little better and just happens to have the right amount of back pressure and his intake flows a little better and is picking cooler air and his tune is closer out of the box than Jeremy's. All these few little things could make the different, it appears to be based on track times. But even if it was determined that they both had exactly the same mods, same weight same everything they may never run the same or close. Hope I didn't go on to long. As far as the tunes go Jeremy is going to send us some logs to look at and see if what we can do there. I think Ryan said this already, there is only so much you can do with out a wide band setup. But that's where everybody has to decide what they're trying to do. We'll get Jeremy dialed in a little better and pick up some time. But should he try a different cai or exhaust to see if it helps? It all depends on the person but as of right now he still has a good running 5.7. To much to type on my phone, will finish later when or not.

Tom.

Re: CMR Tunes...

Thanks for the response Tom. I guess all the little things do add up to make a difference. For anyone who is reading this thinking about getting a CMR tune from MHP. They are definitely worth it and I do not have any complaints about it. It pulls a lot better off the line and has increased power throughout the gears.

The main reason for bringing all of this up was the noticeable differences between runs. However, looking back there are differences between mine and Joe's setup which are what is causing the differences, I just didn't think it would be that different.

Re: CMR Tunes...

Tom, thanks for both backing up my points as well as chiming in with your own insight. As a fellow JG Vendor I wanted to make sure that none of my remarks could be interpreted as negative or derogatory.

To re-affirm what Tom and I are essentially saying, if you have read this thread, and are wondering why you are slower than your peers, short of buying more parts to go fast, here is a NO-BS assessment of what you need:
  • More track time to learn/tweak your setup
  • Discussion with seasoned racers re: tips, technique, etc
  • A wideband or a dynosession to datalog
Drag racing is not a matter of slapping a bunch of parts together, doing a single test and tune and hoping for the best. Not even close. It is a science. So study it.

LOL, I swear that he isn't. I spoke to Joe last night over the phone and he said that he is done with the mods since his lease is almost up.

I'd be more than happy to offer my services to those who are looking for the edge on Joe, however.....
