First off just want to say hello as I'm new to the boards. Picked up an '08 WK 3.7L just yesterday and am already looking to dump money into it (always seems to be the case w/ any vehicle ). This makes it the 4th Jeep I've owned, but the first one I'm actually interested in modding. Will be driving out to Montana (from Michigan) this September, then will be driving down through WY, UT, and CO for most of October -- as a result, I'm hoping to do what I can now to help out w/ improving gas mileage and figure a CAI is the place to start...
From what I can tell, it looks like CAI's for the 3.7 are pretty limited in number w/ K&N and Airaid being the forerunners.
Looking at Airaid's website it doesn't show any intakes for '08 and up... 310-205/311-205 are only listed for '05 - '07. Anybody have any idea if the 311 would fit on my '08 3.7L??
Don't want to beat a dead horse, but I've read on a few different forums about K&N vs. Airaid (not specific to WK's though), and people seem to be recommending the Airaid over the K&N, but nobody says exactly why. Can anyone comment??
I tried going thru Airaid and even called them to see if it would fit. The guy told me that there were different dimensions in the hood that might cause problems. I dont know if this is true or not so I didn't risk and instead went with K&N
Do you think you could take a pic of the underside of your hood for me? I want to compare it to mine and see if what Airaid told JeepKid is true and that there are in fact changes in the hood.
I've been playing around with the idea of building my own, but being away at grad school w/o a suitable place to work/tinker, it's much easier to just buy something pre-fabbed and slap it on.
Curious as to where you bought the parts for your intake though -- looks much nicer than what I'd expect a homemade intake to look like
If I can't see any visual changes in the underside of the hood, I figure I'll just find a vendor that has a good return policy and pull the trigger and see what happens
That's what I was thinking... maybe the Airaid guy got it wrong? I'd assume both TB's have the same mounting pattern/dimensions, but will have to check
Saw that thread -- not a huge fan of the accordion tubing :smh: Also saw where someone used an Airaid tube from a 92 Dakota, and while I like the looks of it, I don't want to have to buy another piece to make it work (especially at $100). Fingers crossed that an '07 kit will work on my '08 and I can be done w/ it
i had the same q's as you when i bought my 08 in 08 and was a little disappointed. i went with a k+n 63 series and also another thing you can do is get rid of your air resonator.
you could go with a ported TB by flying ryan(a vendor here) or go with fastman as well.
Plans are to get rid of the resonator, but the issue is fabbing something to go between the 63 series and the TB.
And a FRP TB is already on the list to buy -- just waiting to hear back from him with current prices (found a few somewhat dated posts and just want to be sure). He does core exchanges so I don't have any downtime, correct?
You are correct the WK were 2005-2010, but they did make sheet metal changes through out the years. If they changed the hood area at all our system would not seal anymore. Also I noticed looking online that in 2009 they did make some design changes in the engine compartment area as well. Thanks Ben
To me it seems like he's saying the issue is simply w/ the heat shield forming a seal against the hood, rather than any other fitment issues from the throttle body down. I sent him another reply to see if he can confirm.
GR33N D3MON, if you happen to snap a couple more pics, think you could also get a close-up of the area over where the filter/heat-shield would go?
I figure if there are any changes, I could always add some weather striping or foam to help seal... and even if worst come to worst and it doesn't seal perfectly, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.
Sweet, thanks man -- here are pics I just took of mine (raining out so they didn't turn out too great)
By my unprofessional eye, looks pretty identical to me. Only thing I could see that might get in the way would be the different coolant reservoirs. Like I said before, thinking I'm just going to find a vendor that has a good return policy and go for it
Yes the weather strip not forming a seal would be the major issue. I do believe though with some modifications you could make it work. We are looking into the 07 + models as well but it will be awhile before it’s in production. Thanks, Ben
