Re: Dyno tuning of my 426 turbo engine

Supposed to get Jeep back Feb 4th, but intake piping blew off on final road test causing some minor damage.
Replacement turbo, BOV and bead rolling on piping currently in the works.
I want to thank Tim@NCTS for helping out in this situation and I've included his explanation:

I talked to Travis at the shop doing the work, and the turbo really didn't die, it has a seal leaking more than it should, but other than that there was no damage to it. Without the pump running, the oil pressure built up enough to have pushed the compressor side seal out causing a slight leak through it. It still had lubrication, so there was no danger of it grenading.

It was running 12psi+ of boost, and the original system was set up for 7-8 psi so the charge piping has smooth ends. Silicone couplers and T-Bolt clamps will handle up to 10psi without any problem, but beyond that, the tube ends either need to be be tacked or bead rolled to prevent blowout which is what took place.

One of the silicone couplers popped off under boost, and apparently the electrical feed for the oil pump was somehow fixed to the charge pipe section during installation, so that when it moved, it disconnected the electrical connector to the pump allowing oil pressure to build up in the center section and create a seal leak.

The single 50MM BOV is being replaced with a Tial Q BOV that flows 60% more than the standard 50MM. It is suspected that it could not relieve enough air flow at the elevated boost levels. It was indeterminate if there was an issue with it, it is rare to see an issue with a BOV as they are so simple.

Even though the turbo seal issue was not a defect with the turbo, the manufacturer of the turbo system is replacing it at no charge, and supplying the upgraded BOV at cost. Says a lot of how they stand behind their product.

Yes, and don't be so humble, Thanks Tim!!!

Re: Dyno tuning of my 426 turbo engine

yuo mention the rolled tips on the piping...how is that not an industry standard? I have owned several 3S twin turbos and rolled tips on all piping is just a standard with any upgraded system....even when pushing lower boost. How can that be missed on such a wild system?
