Re: First Impressions of Hypertech on 3.7

If I get refunded, will SCT provide promise that I will gain some HP and not interfere with my tire size calibration?

SCT can't do anything involving the tire size calibration, (I know that's not what you asked) so I would expect it to not be an issue. I'd have to double check with SCT on that one.

SCT doesn't have canned tunes, just the files I write. So I'm not sure if you're looking for my word, or some sort of guarantee from SCT that you will make more power than stock? If the latter, it ain't happening as it subject to the calibrator to design said calibration to make power.

I can make more power than stock but on 87 octane, heat (I lived in Scottsdale for a brief period of time, I know how hot it gets out there) and big tires, you simply can't expect miracles. When you toss on heavier, taller tires, the extra rolling resistance creates alot of extra strain on the motor which means a greater likelihood for spark knock, meaning the tune would need to be made less aggressive. You can alleviate some of this with a 180* thermostat and colder spark plugs.

Re: First Impressions of Hypertech on 3.7

I was hoping that I could keep my tire calibration and then use a SCT without changing my calibration.

I see tuners on ebay, but I am unclear how I get a tune to it.

I don't expect miracle, just something in exchange for my money.

Of course, I understand. My point was expectations need to be realistic, and it needs to be understood that given the variables, one can only add so much fuel and timing before theres no more left.

Tunes are sent via Email. A datalogger ( either something with the ability to log MAP/RPM/fuel trims, or a Wideband AFR gauge with the ability to log by RPMs/MAP) is a must.

I've seen Diablo wipe out ABS systems, I'm wondering if something simiiar has happened with yours related to the tire calibration.

Re: First Impressions of Hypertech on 3.7

Tire ABS was not a problem till I did the Max Energy version.

I might just leave the jeep alone. I will save my data logging for my turbo cars and save my money for a limited slip.

280 Miles or so shifting is still weird. I did get 23.4mpg. I give credit to hypertech

Re: First Impressions of Hypertech on 3.7

Talked to HT. They asked me to return to stock and see if problems continue.

Stock, drives fine. Take off is nice and strong. Performance is sluggish like I'm taking off in second gear. Twice this weekend I pulled into traffic instinctively thinking I could make it safely...wrong! Having this software is nearly dangerous.

I ran the jeep up and down back roads. I could only get 2 1/4 mile runs. Performance= 19.14 @79.5 Stock 17.38 @85.4

Dyno plots on aDyno (phone app) are a bit confusing after the fact. I thought that the stock had better numbers, but now I have too much data. Searching the graphs I get

Stock 132HP@5753rpm and 156ftlbs@4164rpm. 135.6@5983 and159ftlbs@3038rpm.

Performance 119hp@5676rpm and124.7ftlbs@4036. 139.6hp@5479rpm and140.1ftlbs@3817.

This is a phone app, so take it for what its worth. Not sure if I want to spend $80 to prove a point. I am going to insist that I get my money back and they downgrade my box.

Re: First Impressions of Hypertech on 3.7

aDyno sucks, I assume you're using a Droid phone. Try DinoDyno.

Are you sure you're not getting spark knock?

Re: First Impressions of Hypertech on 3.7

I did not think about knock, but I would hope knock would send a DTC .
I still get the tracion light abs error, but at 4500 rpm now.

HT suspects a previous software mod, since I bought it used. I doubt it because the dealer was in there trying to correct for tire size. You would think they would say something becuase it was under Jeep's warranty.

THey are seting up a data pull from the box. I hope they can figure it out.

Re: First Impressions of Hypertech on 3.7

I dont know if the 3.7 has knock sensors like 4.7/5.7/6.1 does....regardless it will NOT set off a DTC unless it registers excessive misfire counts. It would have to be extreme to do that (like an injector not spraying, etc.). Hopefully they figure out the ABS dealio.

Re: First Impressions of Hypertech on 3.7

I rarely hear of knock at low RPMs....Take offs are slow, sort of like a low compression.

At high RPMs right before a shift, my Jeep sounds like a Honda V-Tec, almost like you can hear valves floating around.

Re: First Impressions of Hypertech on 3.7

The guys at HT, uploaded my data and found the problem.
They did this the same week I started this thread. Nice guys. I updated my programmer. ABS issue is gone, no more hesitation at take off.

Still not sold on any HP increase.
