I'm interested....whatever I can do to further embarrass the Eco-boost F150's.

Hey Nick.

Can the superchips do any datalogging? I'm not sure how the fuel trims would react to the reworking of the manifold. I suspect that you'd probably have to step up to SCT...which I can help you with.

Runner work. Nothing crazy, just a little blending.

Re: Gen 1 4.7 (99-07) Manifold Porting Feeler/Discussion

Redid most of the runners (I still have yet to finish all of them) with some of my new low-profile bits, corrected some spots, and cleaned up some of the epoxy work. Also was able to reach a bit further into the manifold. I can reach pretty close to the back of the inlet but not with any sort of finesse/precision needed.

This is more or less a "guinea pig" manifold, but even so, I have 15 hours into this thing. Its taken alot more work than I planned. The next one should go MUCH faster.

Re: Gen 1 4.7 (99-07) Manifold Porting Feeler/Discussion

This could be interesting...

The 08 upgrade manifold is on my list, however its just a PITA. Need TB adapters and also need to modify the firewall to get it to fit. This would be plug 'n' play - possibly something I could even do myself.

I'm interested to hear the gains of this. If it is even near the 08 mani I would probably take this route.

Re: Gen 1 4.7 (99-07) Manifold Porting Feeler/Discussion

Well,,,

Finally heard back from the owner of this manifold.

This is on a '01 Dakota with the following:

CAI
68mm TB (Fastman?)
180 tstat
Removed Clutch Fan
Magnaflow downpipes, cats, muffler

The vehicle had been undergoing several upgrades and repairs for all this time.

After 50-60 miles (adaptives potentially still setting in), the truck has a slight loss in low-end, with a substantial gain above 3000 rpms. The owner has not really gone WOT yet or above 4000 rpms , but under heavy throttle the truck really comes alive in or around 3000. The sound is also drastically different, from what I understand the intake note transitions into more of a deep resonant roar around that 3000 rpm point.

A couple things to note.

This truck is running on a factory tune. It is very likely that whatever loss or lack of gains sub-3000 are due to the setup requiring a drastically different fueling demand. The PCM has a very limited ability to satisfy this demand.

This particular truck is at 7600+ ft elevation, which means that whatever flat spots, or losses, he perceives, are greatly amplified by the reduced performance that comes with higher elevation and reduced air density. So, if he were near or at sea level, the perceived weakness in low end would not be nearly as evident.

I am working with him to do some datalogging to see what all is happening, and to see if tuning will fix it. We shall see. Overall, he does like the manifold and the power gains are evident.
