Help with Performance Muffler

I'm thinking about swapping out my muffler with a magnaflow. I've read every thread on every brand. I've been wanting to do an upgrade for 2-3 years now. I know most people use a 5x11x22 muffler with 3" in/out. My question is: Do I need a muffler that has center in/center out, center in/offset out, or offset in/offset out? I'm thinking center/center but I want to be sure before I order it. I definitely want to keep a resonator but is the stock one very restrictive. Should I upgrade to a magnaflow as well or just stick with stock. Thanks

3" center/center is your best bet. about the resonator, i dont know. im doing my new exhaust this week. i bought a 4" round magnaflow and i'm running it out the side, so no resonator for me.

If you do not give a damn about drone then chopping off the resonator is fine along with an aftermarket muffler. If you dont want my super crazy/obnoxious loud I would suggest a 5 X 11 X 18 Magnaflow muffler with no resonator. Like I said if you dont want drone then leave on the reso.

I live and die by Magnaflow. FTW!!!!

This is a little different because I have a 4.7 but I've run a 5x8x18 and a 4x14" round muffler, but the round sounds WAY better. I would go with a round Magnaflow and keep the reso.

I'm planning on keeping the resonator. Should I upgrade to the magnaflow or just keep the stock one. New muffler and custom 3" pipe will be about $150 at local shop. Add $80 for magnaflow resonator. Still about half of a catback system.

I have the 5x11x22 with the 3/3 center inlet/outlet. It's perfect for cruising.. quiet most of the time and kinda loud when you get on it. I would recommend going down to the 5x11x18 if you want sound more often. I have the res on still and if I got the 18" I'd still keep it on if unless you want MDS drone. Let me know if you have any questions.

Here is exactly what it'll sound like at idle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCO5sFurOYQ

IMO anything is better than stock when it comes to exhaust note and that's the excuse I'm going to use after everyone views the video

It sure is! At least it doesn't sound like a million souls dying and destined for hell, all at once.

Amen.

Ryan,

thank you for posting the video. i wasn't sure on inlet/outlet. the stock looks like it's offset for inlet and center for outlet. if you're running center/center then i have to believe that works.

Your shop will have to weld extension pipes, the muffler is considerably shorter:
