Jeep 5.7L Hemi modifications

I have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee 5.7L hemi. Everything on it right now as far as I know is stock. It has 85000 miles. I am wanting to do some modifications to it like a tuner chip and stuff like that to make it accelerate faster and give it more power. I am not wanting to do anything super extreme and I plan on driving this vehicle for a long time so I don't want anything that will ruin the engine long term. Thanks for any advice.

Re: Jeep 5.7L Hemi modifications

Which ones of these can you buy the parts and chage yourself? Are there any specific brands I need to stay away from? I have done a lot of work on vehicles as far as brakes and alternators, and small stuff like that. So I am very new at all this custom stuff so I am just trying to not make any dumb mistakes.

Depending on how handy you are, you can do all of those yourself. I did the intake and cat-back exhaust system myself. Throttle body switch-out will be next, still need to read up on the grounding mod.

Re: Jeep 5.7L Hemi modifications

TB ground mod is a piece of cake I just redid mine,as i was out of town the 1st time i heard about it & used small wire....... dont do that

get a good size wire (I used 8 gauge this time) and some ends that have 1/4" or bigger bolt holes. connect one end to the TB & the other to either the neg batt terminal or the chassis ground right next to the battery. note the chassis ground has a bigger bolt so the ends you get have a say in where you put it.

1st my old little 12ga wire(orange)

and now the new and improved 8ga setup

If you're going to use the chassis ground, the one right next to the neg batt is connected to it so it will be better then the little one behind it

when i put the 1st version on,it was barely noticable, but this way its much better it seems to idle smoother and is more responsive for sure NOTE: I did not pull the batt wire off, just the nut so i could put the wire on so no reset was performed

Bottom 3 pics are of 2nd setup. Took 1st one off. Still attached to tb,just on bottom bolt now. It gives the tb a proper ground.being the manifold is plastic it doesnt do it.

Re: Jeep 5.7L Hemi modifications

I'm hopefully doing this mod tonight, at the same time as my seafoam treatment and my catch can. Hopefully, there will be a world of difference, but my expectations are pretty low for such a cheap set of mods. MAYBE I'll be pleasantly surprised...

Re: Jeep 5.7L Hemi modifications

Just so you guys are aware, the electronics inside the throttle body are isolated from the housing so you're not really grounding anything. Just an FYI...
If you're going to ground anyway, you should add another wire from negative battery to chassis ground. Then chassis ground to driver side head, driver side head to passenger side head, and passenger side head to chassis ground on the other side. You can also beef up the ground from the PCM to the firewall. It is suggested to use a minimum of 4ga. wire. There is great debate on the effectiveness of additional grounding so your results may vary.
