Re: K&N Cone Filter, Always Cleaning it!!!

A little OT but... check your cabin filter too Timmy, that's likely to be pretty dirty too if you're in and out of construction sites and whatnot.

When I did a little reading on filters I came to the conclusion that dry filters are the way to go. Amsoil (mentioned) seemed to be a top notch filter (and oils/lubrication) manufacturer. A little pricey, but I would spend the few extra bucks.

I clean mine about every three oil changes. Never very dirty tho. I have a dry and a Oil, and i just swap them.

I'd say a 3.5" diameter flange, 6" base with 9" long cone filter would be ideal.

Re: K&N Cone Filter, Always Cleaning it!!!

lol to this thread.
I have a K&N, never cleaned it on my Jeep but have on other vehicles. I do however run the optional dry chrage cover for when I go to the beach because from experience sand is difficult to remove from any reusable filter.

Does it even click to you guys that the K&N is getting dirty, because, well it's FILTERING! LOL, As in, doing it's job.

Good for you if your "insert brand name" dry filter never needs cleaning....... could be because it's not actually filtering anything.

Think of any filter, be it a pool filter, a fuel filter, a face mask, whatever, if it needs cleaning or replacement sooner, means it's filtering better hey

Re: K&N Cone Filter, Always Cleaning it!!!

just for clarification on the dry media filters, at least the one I have and know the facts on... IT DOES NEED CLEANING. It just does not require the special fluid to clean it or re-oil, nor do you have to wait for it to dry in between. Simply pull the filter, use low pressure compressed air and/or a shop vac, until it is clean, then reinstall. It is not maint. free, just maintained easier. Plus it filters better and flows just as well.
