Re: Performance Upgrade Options

Yes a muffler alone can add a few horsepower. Tests done on the new mustangs have always shown a few (2-5) by changing the mufflers. I'M ALSO SAYING THIS DOESN'T MEAN IT WORKS ON EVERY VEHCILE. On our Jeeps-i'd agree with Scott-no benefit. You'd need to do a full catback and even then-only small gains.

Scott, regarding your most recent post:

One word for WJs Kolak

On my 99 4.7 I did the 3" Kolak exhaust from where the Y pipe meets back and yes its louder (you get choice of flowmaster mufflers) but it did make a difference in power and gas mileage! That plus the cold air intake did the trick. Would love something like that on my 2007 5.7.

Read it again. I can't speak for the WKs, but on a WJ, the tailpipe is already mandrel bent....and the factory muffler is 30" long and filled with chambers. Yes, there is a power increase. Significant? no, but it is there.

Listen to what you just said. A muffler on any car, truck , suv, adds zero power. No matter what the muffler design is from OEM, no matter what the aftermarket muffler design is, it makes no difference. Thus all mufflers are the same. I'm sorry, but that just isn't true.

I'm not a fan of flowmaster, but on a 4.7 having 3" piping does help. You don't NEED to get a catback....see if there is a good exhaust shop in the area, they could probably fab up something nice for you.

I was thinking of removing my setup and just dropping a 3'' large case (i hate drone) and welding on a 12'' down pipe instead of running pipe to the rear.
Good idea?

Re: Performance Upgrade Options

yeah I took mine into a racing shop and the guy utilized my stock mandrel-bent pipe (said it was just as good as what he would make) over the diff and welded the muffler and tip onto either side. I have a very hard time believeing that the Borla w/o reso is not any better than the restrictive stock muffler w/ resonator...IMO it has to be more than 1hp, but I agree that it is prolly under 10hp
