port and polish question

so i have to get my heads resurfaced and pressure tested. and while im doing that i was wanting to know if there is any point to have the heads ported and polished? i have a 05' 4.7 and i want more performance. so is it something i could do? would it be worth it to do it? any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Re: port and polish question

Can't speak from experience when referring to a Jeep, but I know that on just about any vehicle it's worth something. Generally you will be looking at 15-40 hp. I know thats a pretty wide range but it really depends on how restrictive the heads are from factory. Seems the 05-07 4.7's are not exactly big powerhouses so i'd say you could safely add 30 or so hp. You will probably have to get the pcm tuned due to the drastic change in airflow, plus you should have other intake and exhaust mods to support the additional flow.(CAI.ported TB,good catback system)

Re: port and polish question

There are definitely gains to be had. We all start somewhere, I know I did, but if youre asking yourself "is this something I can do", i would say youre best handing it off to someone who knows what theyre doing.

PCM tuning would be recommended.
