smoother ride

Does anyone know how to make the ride on a wj more smooth. Im sure it has something to do with better shocks, anyone know of the upgrades for this like specific shocks to get? Ive noticed the ride can be a little bumpy at times and wasnt sure if there was a way to improve it.

Re: smoother ride

hmm that looks like a good upgrade for the wj and not too expensive. So i would just need two of them, right? also are these pretty easy to install yourself

Re: smoother ride

I have the Billsteins on my 04' WJ with the upcountry springs. The ride is firm more so than smooth but it ain't bad for a Jeep. Besides the shocks and springs, also take a look at the tires you are running.

Generally speaking a P tire will ride better than an LT and all seasons better than an AT or MT. My 04' use to have LT BF Goodrich ATs, which are great tires if you need the extra traction and load handling. However, switching over to Michelin Latitudes in P size made a world of difference in the smoothness of the ride. I recently replaced the Pirreli Scorpion ATs on the wife's 01' WJ with a set of BFG Long Trails and although they won't win any awards for offroad driving, they are a very smooth riding street tire with pretty good wet/snow traction.

Here's a like to an online store selling the Billsteins for Grands. Not saying this is the best price or place but it will give you an idea of what they cost.

Re: smoother ride

hmmm ok, i guess a good question for you joe, Would you spend 270 for the bilsteins again on your wj if you had stock? So it was just a firmer ride than stock but not a huge difference?

Re: smoother ride

When the shocks on the wife's 01 need replaced I will indeed be putting on Billsteins as I do believe the difference is both noticeable and worth the $$$. Also plan on adding them to my 07WK some day. Guess you can say I am sold on Billsteins.

Re: smoother ride

hmm ok, it is probably time to replace them anyway. Ive read they only last about 50-60,000 miles before the ride becomes pretty bumpy.
