?SRT Headers on 5.7?

SO - i think i want to upgrade the stock 5.7 "exhaust manifolds" to the 6.1 "headers". I've seen a few ppl do it, but not bolt up to the factory mid-pipes. Looks like most have upgraded the mid-pipes at the same time - I dont. I want to keep the factory along with my single Magnaflow cat-back. Has anyone done this or attempted to? I've pinged a few on here to learn that i will need a reducer as the flange is larger than the 5.7 stockers and that this can be a royal PITA! :) I've seen the pics of comparisons between the 2 and there is a world of difference - my 5.7 NEEDS to breathe better :D Any info is appreciated!

Nice - thanks Ryan! I was wondering if i need to re-visit the tune after this :) Anyone....anyone....? :)

I'd datalog again just in case, but worst case scenario, if you wanted to stick with me, we can see if SCT supports your PCM #. You'd lose the trans tune but I can still get rid of TM and add some other tricks that I didn't with CMR. I've picked up on a few things since then. ;)

Why go through the trouble of opening up the exhaust at the manifold, only to cram the gases back into a single side-swept muffler design? The gain from adding headers is not huge to begin with. I probably picked up 10-15HP over the stock system, in conjunction with the Eagle intake, larger TB, and revised tuning. Unless you have a cam/heads/intake combo going, it's not worth the trouble and expense. I would get a cam/head package first. If doing everything at once, I would look at getting a single pattern cam, for the headers will help facilitate movement of the exhaust and you could theoretically get a little more HP/TQ.

Depending on what you end up doing, yes, you'll need to have the tune looked at. My combo has been tempramental in that department. However, Ryan and David were able to help improve on the cam surge I am experiencing. VE tables need to be tweaked a few times in order to dial in the air/fuel at part throttle when going with a more aggressive cam profile. Increased overlap equates to needing less fuel at idle and dialing in the airflow can be tricky. The more overlap you have, the more you want to push the commanded air fuel at idle down. Inertia cams are prone to surging, but everything can be tuned...it just takes some time to figure out what works.

Thanks for the input - i thought about doing duals, but i wanted to keep my current setup - i guess a less expensive MOD - even though I'd prob look into a CAM later, not sure on heads as I'm not racing - i just want a few MOAR balls on the HEMI :) From what i see the mani's are a big restriction in the flow. I was thinking anything is better than stock and i could always adjust later - whether it be add duals or mids or other stuff. I currently have an intake and Ryan's TB - the only bigger addition i can add is duals - on top of what you've suggested :). It just wasnt on the roadmap for "soon" :)

RYAN - thanks brotha - i knew id have to revisit the TOON. I still love that trans TOON :)

Did you use the full exhaust: SRT pipes all the way or just do headers? Thanks for the response!

BUMPERS....
I'm still looking at some SRT headers....anyone have any other options on replacing stock with SRT?

Well - i dont know what's easiest - seems that not too many ppl here have done this. I want confirmation about the fact that SRT manifolds(basically shorty headers) will improve performance and will open up some air restriction, from the stock 5.7 mani's.

To go along with that - would it be easier to put on the SRT with reducers to the stock 5.7 mids or just get the SRT headers and mids, then have a shop do something from the mid to the cat-back.

Thanks for asking to clarify - i may not have been too clear.

I'm not sure how much different the 5.7 Jeep mids are in comparison to the 6.1. I assume the 6.1s are different/better, I know the LXs are this way. Regardless, I'd swap the manifolds, but only if you're going to put together a performance oriented midpipe. I've re-done enough cheaped-out mods to know better these days, to do it right or to not do it at all.

Got a complete srt8 exhaust on my 09....... Best mod I ever did.... You will lose the trailer hitch and the spare tire but you can remove the rear pipes and install the hitch if you need to tow something in about 30 minutes..... I found that removing the rear par of the exhaust makes the car sound more mellow with zero drone? Runs better according to my seat of the pants gauge and I like the stealth mode with no visible exhaust....

Think I had to grind a little on a piece on the trans for proper fit but all the stock O2 sensors all bolted up just fine. After 2 years no probs and price was right..... Guys sell these pretty cheap.... TBF

I have a 06 XK HEMI and are in the process of buying the SRT8 OBX headers. I know they are cheap knock offs but I wouldnt want to hack up a 1500$ pair of headers. With the cost of OBX being so cheap, my thought is if your going to go thru the hassle of this mod, mine as well do real long tube headers. Not sure whether Ill go straight thru mids or weld my stock cats in place. Many people have informed me both the 5.7 and 6.1 run better with stock cats.. Already have tune standing by..

Hey guys just hopping on here JUST LETTING you guys know. MY 10 5.7l is going in to American RACINg Headers. I live a few minuets away from them. They also have been waiting a long time for some to come in there with there truck. They are using my truck as a template to make a full set LONGTUBE headers. And the production starts!!!

They are welding the gig this week!! finally!!
