SRT Rear Sway Bar Install

Hey, y'all.

Long time skulker (Skulk: verb meaning to keep out of sight or hide typically beacuse cowardliness or shyness).

This is my first post, but I've been reading for a long time.
I'm replacing the rear sway bar on my 2006 WK 3.7 with an SRT8. I've read where lots of people have had problems. Is it as simple as it seems? Just take the rear wheels off, remove the four bolts and brackets and install the new? Is there an order in which I should remove the bolts or anything? Do I grease the new bushings (with what type of grease)?

I live in Georgia. No snow (for the most part), so no salt. Everything underneath looks clean. The nuts look like they'll come off easily .

Thanks for the help!

Re: SRT Rear Sway Bar Install

After the tires are off, just unbolt the end links, unbolt the sway bar brackets, and lower the rear end to get better access to pull it out. Pretty easy. Using grease depends on the bushings your going to use.

Re: SRT Rear Sway Bar Install

Thanks for the reply. It does sound pretty easy.

Forgive my ignorance, but when you say, "...lower the rear end..." Can you elaborate for me, please? Do I just lower the jack a little?

I ordered these: "SRT8 Rear Sway Bar Kit: Rear SRT8 Sway Bar Bushings" from Just4Jeep.com

Re: SRT Rear Sway Bar Install

Put your jack stands under the body of the jeep and have the jack under the rear diff and lower the jack (rear end) enough to easily pull the sway bar out.

Re: SRT Rear Sway Bar Install

@JeepFreak: no grease? And end links first THEN sway bar brackets? Is that the right order?
Thanks again, dude!

Again, the grease depends on the bushings you go with. Standard rubber bushings don't need grease. But I'm running energy suspension grease-able ones. It wouldn't hurt to throw a little suspension (non-washable) grease inside the bushing before install tho. On which bolts first it really doesn't matter. I did the end links first then the bracket.

It will reduce body roll and keep it more flat in corners.

Re: SRT Rear Sway Bar Install

Yup, and it's *awesome*!!! Best $100(ish) mod you can do (at least IMO). The front's next.

Stoopid AAP *still* can't seem to get me the ES bushings. First it was, "we'll have em tomorrow." (In their defense, they did. But they were not the same size!) Then it was, "we'll have em in for you Thursday. At 10:00, they said, "UPS hasn't come yet. They usually get here around 3:00." At 4:00, they said, "we can't get em until the 9th." (Wednesday). I told them to keep the aggravation, and gimme the $$ back on my card.

I went to AZ, at least they said we'll have them Tuesday at 3:00. Arrrrgh!! I should have just ordered them online. I woulda had em by now!
