I noticed a lot of people have swapped out the sway bars, and i was looking to do the same on my 5.7 limited with the srt8 bars. Can you really feel a difference? how significant? Is it just a straight swap?
Thanks
Thanks Scott,
I thought having the eibach springs and Bilstein shocks/struts already that sways should finish it out nicely, i just wasnt sure which Component got the most results, glad to see I have the 2 of 3 that do the least ha, sr8 rear sway here i come
but its almost that easy. you have to disconnect the bar ends from the links. you need 2 wrenches for that. 8mm to hold the end of the link and 18mm for the nut. that gets both ends disconnected. then there are 2 center bar mounts with rubber bushings. new onescome in the kit you just reuse the bolts. i think those were 3/4 but dont hold me to that. the center bolts torque to 35 the ends to 85. thats it.
The rear srt sway bar is my next project once I get this srt exhaust on. From all I hear im looking forward to seeing what a difference it makes, just putting srt lowering springs in had an amazing effect on cornering and feel of the road. J4J has them for a good price, and I think we get a discount from here right?
I think the stock is great for people that take it off road once in awhile. I recently went camping with these srt lowering springs and it absolutely blew, had to go 5 mph and I was being bounced around nevermind the girl in my passenger seat. I actually scraped my side sills twice on rocks that time too, but I was trying to follow a Ford F350 with a 4" lift on it. I realize you cant have it both ways, so no more off road for me.
Oh but you can have it both ways ........... you just have to own more than one Jeep!
Using car-part.com, I've located a rear sway bar off an 06' Commander when searching under the Grand SRT8. It's at a salvage place just 5 miles from my place. Anyone know if the Commander and SRT8 rear bars are indeed the same? All I would need is a new set of mounts & bushings, right?

The Commander and srt are the same rear sway bar, new bushings will be needed because of the bigger size. I think you can still use your original mounts though. The new bushing just has a bigger hole.
I just looked it up and according to justforjeeps.com you do need new mounts as well as new bushings with the srt8 sway bar. I would give them a call and triple check, I hate giving false info. They say the new bushings are different and will not fit the stock WK mounts. So for the cheap price they sell them I would get them too. why not do everything new, right? Or you can always buy polyurethane bushings which are much better than rubber, assuming the srt stock bushings are rubber. I might be wrong though. Scott can chime in on this im sure.
Curious, but what color does the sway bar come in? I know no one will even see the dam thing but I think a nice red sway bar would look good. I just did my upper sway bar in the front a nice flame red after it being black and it really pops out now and makes it look like a sweet mod, so i'd def paint the rear sway bar before its installed just for fun.
