Straight pipe?

Anyone straight pipe a hemi? I know it would be extremely loud and annoying but it would be pretty sick...

I heard possible problems with back pressure but I was also told its wont really effect it. Opinions?

my setup is pretty close to a strait pipe. i'm running a magnaflow 4" round with no resonator side exit, and its stupid loud. anything louder would be too much honestly.maybe look into running an electric cutout, that way you could have it loud when you want and quiet when you dont.

You talking about no cats too? That would be way too loud (sound crappy), imo, although you could annoy those darn harley dudes that run open pipes :D

Cats act like a muffler slightly, so that would help, but just put a nice free flowing muffler and no resonator and it would sound good (somewhat loud) and not just like no mufflers. I hate that sound and I do like noisy engines, lol. I doubt a majority of people can distinguish the level of an engine based on the note though.

I have read on here a few people that could not stand the sound inside without having resinators on there Hemi's. The cats should be left on, unless he is looking for every bit of power from his motor. No reason to remove the Cats on a daily driver, plus might not pass inspection like here in MA.

Well, I only have the 3.7 V6 with a straight pipe where the muffler was going to the SRT dual exhaust pipes over the axle with the dual resinators and dual tips, and its def noticable when im driving around. With just a straight pipe on a Hemi, no muffler or resinator I would think it would be insanely loud and after a week you would hate it. Why not go with a straight thru muffler to try out to see how you like it? From what your saying I bet you would prob be happy with a Flowmaster. My cousin has a Flowmaster on his V8 Tundra and I can tell he pulled onto my street just from the sound, but it sounds good, not like a car with a rusted out exhaust.

yeah, I've read that also and my experience so far is it actually sounds better without the resonator...Least with this magnaflow it already had on it. I personally hated the magnaflow at first, as it had that darn hum sound (reminded me of my friend's 2-door Tahoe 5.7 he had) and drove me nuts. I chopped that resonator off and while it's a hair louder, IMO it sounds 100X better. I can actually distinguish the note. It is a little on the loud side inside, but I wouldn't call it drone as much as magnaflow hum. On the highway, it's not bad...just when you first get on it.

ps - have you felt have heavy that resonator is! Another benefit, I guess :)

I would not remove the cat, I actually somewhat like the environment... But idk I've looked at the dynomax bullet and I'm between that or no muffler or reso at all. Maybe get a friend to chop the stock muffler and reso and see how it sounds. After a few days decide if I wanna put the bullet muffler on.

^^^ bro, thanks for the advice :)

i will remove my cats today, run some straight pipes for a test... i will post the results.. if a drone existed, i will have to get some high flow mufflers then :)

You Are right about drone from cats, i once removed my Corvettes cats, and the car droned soooo BAD ! I had to put them back on again..

If you get drone inside the car just lay on the soundproofing really thick. :D. I put down ALOT of soundproofing in the cargo area, cargo door, under the rear seats, and all the doors, and its really quiet inside. I was waiting for the warmer weather which is finally here to do a nice undercoat.

I had a 97 ZJ with the 4.0L I6 that I had removed the cat from and gutted the Borla muffler. The drone was a tad too much. I fabbed the spacers for the O2 sensors. Never did reinstall the cat on that ride, but probably wouldn't remove it again ( made it a lil rough sneaking around ).
