Just make sure when you think its cool enough, squeeze the upper Rad hose and make sure there's no pressure.

You could try letting it fully cool overnight and try it again, or try getting it up to temp and then try to just bust the bolt loose and remove it when cool, use a penetrant like Freeze off or PB Blaster, or break out the hot wrench and heat the area around the bolt. More than likely its just corroded in there(last resort).

damn dude it looks like a coolant murder under your hood!

I had the same issue and everyone told me to get a high pressure cap... F that... i have the solution...

Pull off your cap (when its cold) and under the cap are two rectangular...nubs/wings/tabs. These tabs hold the cap down. If you take a pair of plyers and bend them down ever so slightly (VERY LITTLE) and put the cap back on.

Try it, and repeat if it keeps leaking. Your fan settings are also crucial to keeping the coolant cool enough!

by bending those little tabs down, it increases the clamping power of the cap, thus keeping things... under wraps. Move the tabs in tiny increments and do so slowly and carefully to keep from hurting the tabs' structural integrity.

Yeah, getting a locking cap will work, or you can remove the original one, bend that tabs slightly, and that will make it tighter and it won't go everywhere.

the 5.7 has a hydraulic fan not an electric one so you can't adjust the fan settings. with this being the case, is a 180* tstat still justifiable?

Normally I'd say no, but with a CMR I believe they can set the fan to kick on at a lower temp.
