I'm not a Lawyer, nor have I ever wanted to be... but I don't think you could enforce United States Law, outside the United States.

Re: Voided Warranty??? Maybe Not - Know Your Rights (Please Sticky)

Unfortunately, the first post here is based on generalities.

One can't pick and choose what parts of the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act you want to have enforced, and what parts you want to pretend don't exist.

Like many laws, the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act is a compromise. One part of it allows owners to have routine maintenance, and the parts involved in that, done by places other than at a dealer. I'll add the one exception is if the manufacturer includes free maintenance, then you must have it done at a dealer.

Now, the other part of the Act is that it allows manufacturers to completely and totally void the warranty if there is any abuse. Case law has gone on to define such abuse as off-roading and racing. What does the manufacturer need to prove such? Mods typically used for off-roading or racing, most times are all the proof they need.

I have to say, please don't shoot the messenger. I would agree that aren't Jeeps suppose to go off-road? But what I (or you) believe doesn't count. Its what the courts rule. And I'll add that it doesn't appear to change anything if you only did such mods because they looked cool, and that you haven't ever really intended to use them off-roading (or for racing).

Where I live, we have several Jeep dealers. One of those dealers has a well earned reputation that if a Jeep comes in with some heavy off-roading mods, they will snap a picture for their proof, and submit such to Jeep to have that vehicle's warranty voided. I would suggest that if you don't already know about the dealers in your area, to join a local Jeep club. It should be pretty easy thru that club to find which dealers are more mod friendly, and tend to look the other way for off-road mods.

In summary, don't confused parts used for maintenance (like wiper blades) with parts used for mods (like 4" lifts).

So I'm guessing a supercharger on my 2012 WK2, with 15,000 miles left to go until my bumper to bumper warranty ends....shot me in my A** huh?? Never plan on racing it or taking it to the track.
But what does seem interesting to me is the SRT WK2, it has a "launch" and a "track" manufactured settings. I would like to see either the dealer near you explain that or jeep in general void any issues there if something comes up.....

Re: Voided Warranty??? Maybe Not - Know Your Rights (Please Sticky)

Hey I am currently finishing up the process of purchasing a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8. Now it comes with an exhaust and an intake , the dealer (Rockland Chrysler Jeep Dodge) they said the modifications voided any warranty I could have gotten from Chrysler. But then they present me with some warranty options from the dealer. I brought to their attention that I was considering purchasing a lifetime warranty through Chrysler of America and the finance guy said they would sell me the warranty but then deny any repairs when the vehicle came in. So my questions are if I left the parts as is (aftermarket intake and flow master exhaust) would that void the Chrysler lifetime warranty if I decided to buy it any ways, or would it make more sense to remove the intake and exhaust make it stock and take my chances. Any opinions ?

Re: Voided Warranty??? Maybe Not - Know Your Rights (Please Sticky)

I know last post was March but his question is very important to those of us with MVP Extended SERVICE Plans (not warranty, BIG diff)...found this clear cut answer, officially anyway, what the local inspector does may be different....have not heard of any grumblings on a denial or cancel due to mods tho....
