those of you who have had the predator for awhile, what is the best tune to go with for the 5.7L hemi. i've read a lot of conflicting reports. some people say install the 91 tune but run 93 octane for best hp/torque numbers. some say install 93 tune and run 93 octane. have any of you played around with the canned tunes. which way should i go. thanks

Im running the 93 tune 93 octane. I guess the guys that were running the 91 tune is because they were getting less knock running the 91 then with the 93.

Itried the 91 because that's the best gas I can get in WA. After getting the CMR though, I will never install the canned tunes again. The CMR tunes are awesome (power, torque management, drivability)!!

i decided to load the 91 tune and am using 93 octane. i haven't done any data logging or modifying the 91 tune. off the line acceleration seems better but mid-rpms seems much less. if i'm going 30-40mph and stomp the pedal, the jeep slowly accelerates. before the tune, it sounded like it was going to eat the car in front of me. i think i'm going to load the 93 tune

How many miles have you put on it with the 91 tune? You have to drive it for at least 30 miles so it can adapt and you should be able to see a noticable difference. Are you planning on getting a CMR tune?

I'm looking at getting a CMR now but im trying to decide on who I want to go with and use.

hemibeast: i've driven about 75 miles since the 91 tune was put on. i'm happy with everything except the mid-range acceleration. i just installed the 93 tune. i know you can tweak the 91 and 93 tunes a little bit. i don't have access to a 4wd dyno so if i get a cmr tune it will be an e-mail. who have most of you used.

MHP and DCX Depot seem to be the common CMR tunes that people are running. There are more out there though.

after reading other threads, i didn't think there would be a big difference between the 91 and 93 tunes. i was wrong. the 93 tune is so much stronger. my traction control kicks in hard with off the line acceleration. i will most likely get a custom tune in the near future.

I just had my srt jeep CMR dyno tuned. I also ran the canned tunes on the dyno for comparison. (the 91 and 93 with and w/o CAI (which increases fuel)). The 91 and 93 with CAI both ran rich on my car (I have a CAI) A/f in the 10.5-11.5 range. Torque was the same with either and the 93 had a 6hp advantage. The 91 and 93 non CAI actually worked better for my car with A/F in the 12.5 -13.2 the 93 edged the 91 by about the same margin with torque being just a few ft/lbs more. This tune is a hair lean for me so probably needs about 1-2% enrichening. The best canned tune picked up 12hp and 11ft/lbs of torque. The CMR tune picked up an additional 21hp and 32ft/lbs of torque so there is no comparison to the canned and CMR. Interestingly my friend who drives a 300C srt ran the 91 and 93 CAI tunes on a different dyno had good A/F ratios with thiis tune 11.5-12.5. (He has a CAI and a cat back exhaust). Overall he had the same results ie. small hp increase with the 93 and same torque numbers. After seeing my car dyno with the CMR tune he said that's his next step. Hope this was helpful.

Yes it was! Dyno tunes really hone in the tune itself. The canned tunes are inherently rich b/c Diablo wants to protect it's own ass by not leaning out the tunes too much. But with a dyno CMR tune one can really lock in the proper parameters for a good tune.

Im getting a CMR tune from AJ (Hemituner) and then in january he is doing a dyno CMR tune with the headers and Cam on. ;)

Its time to start making some power.. lol :D

Back to what Steve (06HemiLtd) said about his mid-range acceleration decreasing after the Predator install...I dont like the sound of that and I was preparing to buy one, has anyone else experienced that same problem??

Nope!

i've run the canned 93 tune for over a month and haven't had any of the lag i had with the 91 tune. one issue may have been that i was running 89 octane on the 91 tune. i'm very happy with the predator. i'm still getting a custom e-mail tune though.
