55w kits?

I am not completely ready to buy but I am curious for the future if you guys carry any 55w kits. I had 55w low beams and after a balast died I have eventually made it to a 35w kit... there is no compairison honestly. SO much more output from the 55w kit. I will be interested in moving back to 55w at some point.

Re: 55w kits?

@2005JGC: I know, super old post revival

If you've read on their site they tell you why, The increase in brightness isn't worth shortening the lifespan of the bulb.

35W vs 55W HID Kits:

"XenonDepot only sells 35W HID conversion kits for several reasons. 55W HID conversion kits do produce slightly more light (approximately 15%-20%) than a 35W HID Kit. This increased light output usually results in a less even light spread and additional glare. 55W ballasts are not as efficient as 35W ballasts that we sell meaning that 55W ballast longevity will be compromised. Many merchants that sell 55W HID claim that 55W is a superior technology. However, there is a reason that all cars that come with HID lights from the factory still use 35W technology and not 55W technology. These 55W HID kits often overdrive the 35W HID bulb to obtain the increased light output. As a result, you can expect the HID bulb to burn hotter which can damage your headlight. You can also expect a significantly decreased bulb life."

If you put aside the decrease in lifespan for brightness you should make sure you have a bulb that supports wattage that high instead of over driving a 35w bulb.

Very true, both over driven to get more light with a short life span.

Silverstar's longevity are great when in the high-beams, I mean how often do you have to use your high beams lol.

Re: 55w kits?

my 55w bulbs is still going strong (3 years) and i always have em on when im driving. I have a 35w in my reverse so i might take one of its ballast to compare to the 55w.

Re: 55w kits?

Many vendors sell 55W HID kits comprised of 50W ballasts and 35W HID bulbs. They say that their bulbs are rated to handle up to 60W. All that means is that they are overdriving 35W bulbs with 50W ballasts. You end up getting slightly more light output however a shorter lifespan. Furthermore, overdriving 35W bulbs means that they will burn hotter which can potentially damage your OEM housing. Increased light output from 55W vs 35W usually translates to more glare (bigger arc) and an uneven light spread.

Re: 55w kits?

Thanks guys and thank you Steve.

Ultimately I am satisfied with my current setup, I think im going to turn to aftermarket hid flood lamps for offroad use and be perfectly satisfied with my 35w kit. I will say one of the things I liked about the 55w kit is it did wash out some of the color... I just need to get some 4.3k bulbs and be satisfied with those.

No offense, But I've always thought that was one of the most ignorant things someone could do with an HID kit lol, but to each his own I guess. Unless you do most of your driving backwards it's pretty pointless not to mention a waste of a bulb (depending on your brand).

1) First of all what kind of look are you going for?

2) Do you like a bluish light, white light, yellowish light? That why you want to opt for a 50+ watt kit?

3) If you had a retrofit or headlamp that accepted D2S you could get TRS' Morimoto 5Five Ballasts coupled with their (50w) 5Five capsules that have thicker quartz glass capsule and beefed up electrodes compared to their 3Five capsules and you have a great 50w setup.

35w Reverse lights are very functional if you are backing up in dark areas. The life of the bulb should be decent since it isn't being ignited that much more than headlights, and I got them at so I have a life time warranty. It's a long term investment, if I get a different car I could swap the system into the new vehicle.

55w kits are worth it too IMO, bulb life is fine and with a lifetime warranty and a cheapo backup pair of HID bulbs you'll never have to go back to Halogens while waiting for replacement bulbs.
Yeah the color does wash out but that's a good thing if you're looking for functionality.
