Re: What Type of Oil do you use?

Been a Mobil 1 extended performance guy 5w30

But I have been looking at the pennzoil ads and decided to give the Pennzoil platinum a shot since it has the mopar rating. 5w 20

Re: What Type of Oil do you use?

I changed brands and viscosity this last oil change.
I went from Mobil 1 EP in 5w30 to Pennziol Plantinum in 5w20.

The way the Pennzoil feels in the truck was like when I first changed from conventional to synthetic.

What I have noticed now is that the truck takes longer to get up to temp now. I drove home from work two days in a row and the truck did not get up to full temp.

In the past with the Mobil 1 the same trip would have the truck giving off plenty of heat by the time I parked in the driveway for the same 10 minute drive which is 50% uphill.

Pedal effort has also gone down to get the truck moving. When I fill the tank this afternoon I will monitor my MPG to see if there is any improvement in my MPG.

To be fair on my next oil change I will try the Mobil 1 EP in the same viscosity to see if I maintain the same performance and overall feel. If the Mobil degrades the performance then I am switching to Pennzoil for life and not looking back.

Its hard to be the number One and keep that position, somebody is always waiting to takeover that spot. And I think Pennzoil has been actively doing that by going after Ferrari, Lamborghini and SRT as their factory fill oil. Their advertising got me to try and for now they seem to back up their claims.

I haven't tried any of those boutique oils, that I would have to import, so I buy the best I can get from the local advanced auto parts store. So far I am really pleased with the Pennzoil.

Locally the pennzoil cost even more than the mobil 1 so cost wasn't a factor in the decision here.

I just wish I could buy the Platinum Ultra locally to see how that one would work out.

Re: What Type of Oil do you use?

I have used Amsoil 5w20 signature series oil for my last 3 hemi's and change it once a year. 1st hemi in a dodge truck that was my personal work truck and weekend camping vehicle 2nd was my dodge charger r/t that was my summer cruiser and weekend drag racer about 6 times a year. 3rd hemi is now in my Overland and it had 80k miles when I bought it and switched it over. I do oil analysis on the first and second change and compare. The most "used" I had was in the the truck with the first change showing a 3% increase in base metals and overall rating of 11% degraded. The first 2 engines went to 100k and 150k respectively and were running better than ever when I traded them.
I also gained the "seat of the pants" or "butt dyno" feeling but mostly saved money by doing a change once a year and the good feeling of not killing mother earth by wasting the extra 21 quarts of oil per year.
I plan on keeping this Overland for a while as it fits the family well and the wife really wants one for herself. So she will get this one and I will get the upgrade when time comes (thinking something with Hellcat in the name)

Re: What Type of Oil do you use?

Amsoil...the only real fully synthetic out there...
My book say's 7gts for the 5.7 hemi but it takes about 7 3/4 gts to get it to the full mark on the stick... I don't think they accounted for the filter...
"Why not skip all the hype and deception of these other manufacturers and just use AMSOIL? AMSOIL uses only 100% full synthetic PAO technology in each and everyone of its motor oils and is the undisputed leader in synthetic engine oil technology as well as the leader in synthetic gear lubes, transmission fluid, greases, two-cycle oil and many other lubricants and hydraulic fluids. Today, virtually every other motor oil manufacturer has recognized the superiority of synthetic lubricants and has followed the AMSOIL lead with introductions of "synthetic" motor oils of their own.

They spend millions of dollars advertising their "new" and "revolutionary" products. No one, however, can match AMSOIL experience and technological know-how. And no one delivers products like AMSOIL. Accept no substitutes- AMSOIL is the "First in Synthetics"

Re: What Type of Oil do you use?

Been using Pennzoil ULTRA Platinum full synthetic 5w20 and a Mopar filter in the 5.7. Cant beat the price at $27.97 for a 5 quart jug and 5.97 for a filter which works out to about $45 for a full synthetic oil change
