Recently picked up a 14' Altitude and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for adding side steps. I've come across Mopar 82212130AB, but they only go up to 2013. I'd like to keep with the black theme of the package. They also need to be compatible with the splash guards that have already been installed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
That is actually my GC Altitude above. Once I brought it home, I found out quickly that I needed something on the sides to step on, as my 7 year old twin daughters were constantly stepping on the door sills that say "Do not step", when they got in the truck. Sometimes function trumps form.
I liked them a lot better than the black OEM side steps, and they were pretty easy to install, and I am overall very happy with how they look. They also really help out when washing the top of the truck.
Thanks. I've sent an email off to Aries to find out if they will fit with the OEM splash guards. judging from the picture, I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling that they will be compatible.
I have ordered a ss romik set for my overland and am looking forward to get them on for several reasons: (1) so that the kids can get in and out easier, and (2) hopefully stops some of the door dings when in a parking lot next to an inconsiderate individual. The romik gives an option with a 2" extension that should help extend them out a bit farther for this very reason.
Plus I like they way they look on a truck; think they look unfinished without but that's just my opinion!
Ha! I wish! I ordered them back on June 4th and have STILL yet to receive them! Apparently it's not because of Romik rather the largest automotive transport company in NA, Keystone. They signed for them back in June (Romik has the signed document they were received) then proceeded to lose them internally and not bother to reorder them! So here I sit 2months out and what recourse does keystone have that benefits me....nothing. I am pretty pissed off so they better be worth the wait; I will post some picks once I get them on with the extensions so you have an idea what your getting.
Wow! What a mess. I raised a stink over three weeks, two months is ridiculous. According to UPS, my set will arrive tomorrow. Hopefully they will come with everything I need and will do the install over the weekend. Sounds like I may have to post pictures for you. Good luck.
Just an update....finally received my Romik product! And would you believe, after waiting almost three months, they sent the wrong items (sent me the running boards, not the side bars)! UNBELIEVABLE. So PI$#ED off right now; trying to get a response from Romik and the shipper (Keystone) as to who screwed this up, and what they are going to do about it!
Wow, that really does suck. They must have made ours at the same time. Did you get the chrome running boards instead of the side bars you ordered? Just asking because that's what I ordered. Hope you get some type of financial recourse here. That's pretty pathetic customer service.
This time they resent them, and after waiting two weeks for transport to the distributor, then another 3 days to me by bus, they showed up and were once again, incorrect! What they sent were black running boards.
So we are now almost 4 months out from my order and I still do not have what was ordered.
My dealings with this company wasn't that great either. My first set took a month to arrive only to find out they were damaged. After dealing with the Internet seller and Romik, I finally received the new set on Thursday (2 months after the initial order).
I spent Friday evening installing and I'm pretty happy with the results. One thing though, if you have a '14 GC, you'll need the 2" extenders. Also, make sure to spray down the install hardware with WD40 as they suggest, trust me. Good luck.
I finally got my side steps from Romik as well; Ordered in June, arrived in October! Brutal.
Do like them though. Too bad they have such crappy customer service. Their instructions leave a bit to be desired as well; I had to chuckle when I saw 50min to install. I am a fairly handy individual yet it still took me almost 2 hours. Maybe they meant 50minutes with two people or 50minutes a side.
Regarding the extensions, I kept getting told that I had the parts yet there was no extension in the hardware kit with a 3-hole pattern, only 2-hole. Not sure how those are supposed to work and they look nothing like the image of the extensions on Romik's website. PLUS, they were not even SS. However, I did not actually need them to get them to fit so not sure why I didn't need them and some others do.
Anyway, I finally have them on, to go with my Yakima crossbars; now I need to think about swapping the rims.
I too, really like the looks and practicality of side steps. My only worry is how they attach? I know the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a unibody vehicle, not body on frame like most pick ups. This concerns me on the rigidness of the install. I want something I can stand on, and perhaps even jump up and down on, without having anything bend.
For you guys that have them on your Grand Cherokees, are you happy the way they went on? Are they nice and solid? This place is located by me, and they seem to have a pretty good selection. I don't know how many of the models they show will not just "fit" the 2015 Grand Cherokee, but will fit it correctly.
I really like the retractable model, but at over $1,100.00 plus $200.00 for installation, that's getting kind of steep. But you would have the best of both worlds. My new Jeep purchase is coming up at the end of the month, so I'm trying to cover as many bases as possible. The 3 things I really want to get is a Dash Cover, those Weather Tech floor mats, and the Weather Tech rear Rear Bump Guard. that slips into the receiver hitch. (It gets there before you do). And if possible, Side Steps.
