2015 Grand Cherokee LED foglight issues!

Been a while since I have asked a question about an issue I am having.
I have a 2015 grand cherokee w/ HID and leds so I wanted to upgrade my fog lights with LED bulbs to match.
I installed a pair of Kensun LED with internal ballast and a LED warning canceller's. First I had to switch polarity so they would work and once switched they look nice when they are on, but after a little they just shut off. Couple minutes later they turn back on again. "ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY!"
I have installed everything twice and even had them send me a new set to see if that fixed the issue.
There is nothing that comes on the dash showing they are not on, but I notice when they go on and off. I have checked everything numerous times. I am not a total novice at this and need some help.
  • What could the issue be?
  • why do they run fine then shut off randomly and then randomly turn back on?
  • Does anyone else have this issue with LED fog light upgrades?
The stock bulbs dont do this and I could use some help answering this.

Thanks all who reply!

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee LED foglight issues!

This has been covered in another thread.

For some reason the 15+ electrical system is different. Some people have no issues, others have issues. There is no correct reason why it happens. It just does. You can thank integrated technology.

I feel for ya, bro! I changed my 2014 Overland foglights to LED's and have not had any issues. Perhaps it IS an issue with 2015 models. Good luck in finding a solution!

Consider an hid kit for the fog lights. I have them. I rarely use them at all since I had hids installed up top. You may need relays and resistors.

Antsjeep is right! Hey ant, when we talked about this the other day, did you ever find a high quality halogen replacement?

I've been thinking, wouldn't the hids on the higher model work on ours? The projector lens might pose an issue on clarity, but it should work....right?

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee LED foglight issues!

The reply I got from above sounds like halogens are the best way to go.(what brand halogens would you all suggest) Is the fog lights on these a close circiut system (i.e if car doesnt find one light is connected then both will go out. NOT one burned out, but not actually being installed)
I also was told this was discussed in an earlier thread, but I cannot find that thread so thats why I am asking. Just to be clear these dont blink on and off like crazy they stay on and randomly go out and randomly turn back on. They do it together not one side to the other, but both go off then turn back on together!
Just trying to figure out every angle here so I can fix it and reply with success instead of more questions.

Do they over heat the housing. My 2012 grand cherokee altitude would melt the housing when I used HID. Hell they melted when I used putco H16 bulbs. I ended putting LED on my 2012 and only issue is in time the LED burned out, but not this issue.

I have tried multiple LEDs and halogens in the fogs. the LEDs are just not there yet concerning a plug and play self contained unit or color match to a stock 4300k hid. for halogens ive tried silverstar zxe, crystal vision, diamond vision and some others. you wont get a white light matching hid headlights out of any of the halogens all of them will have a yellow look comparatively. really the halogen that I have found offers the brightest light is the silverstar ultra. the others just have a little bluer tint not whiter. LED technology is changing very fast I'm sure they will have other options to look at in the next several months for now just sitting on the ultras

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee LED foglight issues!

As far as melting the housing unit. So far I'm good. All I can say is the projector in my wk2 seems to work well with it, and so do the projector fog lights. The fog lights have a smaller h11 bulb than the top. I have no problems. I started a thread a while back and have pics up. On that thread me and antsjeep talked a lot about hids, bulbs, and leds. Ultimately it comes down to preference. If you don't have projectors don't install hids, the light will spread out and blind people, and you might just burn the housing. I think the projectors handle the heat better. But I'm sure someone here will have a more definitive answer

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee LED foglight issues!

I ran HIDs in my 2012 Altitude and no melting. I ran HIDs in my Subaru Legacy GT and my Jeep Liberty before that. No melting.
I am running HIDs in m my 14 limited and no melting.
I am also going with and just XenonDepot LEDs for my fogs. Scottina06 ran them and stated he could run with his headlights off they were so good. LEDs technology has come a long way, and with the XenonDepot ones rated at 2500 lumens each. I think they are awesome for fogs.
