3M Dinoc Durability?

Hey guys, I know theres a bunch of info out there on the stuff and its rated for outdoor life and all but I wanted to know how well the 3M Dinoc stuff would holdup inside a headlight if its adheres to some 10 gauge aluminum? (like sheet metal basically)

I have a nice roll of the stuff and wanted to wrap my cutom cut projector mount bracket that sits inside the black housing in the stuff but am wondering how it will hold up under conditions in there? Is it hot in there, Im gonna have 2 projectors running 5k bulbs if it matters

Im clueless in this area, any insight is appreciated!

Re: 3M Dinoc Durability?

^^totally agree. It stretches very quickly with a hairdrier on a moderate heat, so I reckon a headlight would destroy it. Shame cause it's a good idea.

damn! I just wonder though, how does it hold up so well on say a car roof in AZ? I'm sure it gets well into the mid 100s due to the color of it and the sheer heat in those parts? I just figured maybe there was a chance it be ok, probably not worth the risk though, don't wanna reopen lights

I guess Ill have to paint it with some hightemp stuff then, shame cause I just sent my chrome bezel out to Danny today, oh well, Ill figure somethin out

Re: 3M Dinoc Durability?

You know what I just remembered! I have Neffy, that stuff is just fabric w/o the special backing so maybe that would work? Im gonna look around, Ive heard of guys using fabric inside w/o an issue so maybe Neffy is the way to go?

EDIT:http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=685056
*This guy had success it seems with some Elmers hot glue and some CF wrap not sure from where though

And Black Ops should make these for us

Re: 3M Dinoc Durability?

I put some clear bra material on my headlights. the kit came with headlight material so i installed it just to see what it looks like, makes the housing look a bit distorted but it also makes the bugs come off real easy.

Re: 3M Dinoc Durability?

Ive been looking talking around, seems fabric CFs unlike dinocs are best route to go for anything under high heat conditions. Key is properly prepping the surface (what a surprise) and then applying some high-heat bonding chemical. I haven't found anything really yet so Im going to talk to buddy of mine and see what he says. Neffy is way to go inside lights though guys, not the dinoc form what I've gathered

Re: 3M Dinoc Durability?

Bump, so just curious, does any know enough about Neffy wrap and heat inside headlights to be opposed to using it with some high-temp adhesive inside of a headlight? J/C

Re: 3M Dinoc Durability?

I think Rob used Neffy on his interior, but had several problems and switched to Di-Noc (correct me if I'm wrong Rob). Oddly enough, I used di-noc on the interior and exterior and it seems to be holding up better on the outside than in.

I would have said HT adhesive 'should' work, but I think this could be a trial and error exercise.
