Accessory LED Turn signal/brake lights

So ive got a 2004 WJ. I was in the process of painting the plastic trim. The rear windows have the vents on them and i took them off and did some stuff to them as well as painting the area behind them black, looks much better. So while i was doing this, i thought it would be cool to add an LED turn signal or brake light hidden behind the vent.

SOOOO QUESTION IS....
Does anyone know how to take a 12v LED strip with just two wires (no plug and play) and splice into the tailight harness to make them a second turnsignal or brake light?

Re: Accessory LED Turn signal/brake lights

That would be neat. Just tap into the Turn Signal Harness and attach the LED's to the Signal Harness.

Nice idea!! I was gonna wrap that part in carbon fibre di-noc at one point. I never even knew it came off.

How does it detach?

Re: Accessory LED Turn signal/brake lights

THere are two pins. u can get to the bottom one fairly easily, top one is kinda hidden. I used a flat head screwdriver and pryed it out with a rag between the shaft and my precious paint. I pryed through the main hole first and once it came out a little i stuck the screw driver behind all the trim to keep from break the "vent" from prying on it. It should just pop out. just MAKE SURE YOU USE SOMETHING TO PROTECT YOUR PAINT. The pins came out with some rubber gromets i pulled them off and put them back in the holes in the metal, makes it a whole lot easier to put back on. I painted it black, it looks 100 times better, and its pretty quick and easy, i just used spray paint since your really not gonna see it up close, makes the vent look like it goes somewhere.

YOu should deffinitely do that, i would if my jeep was black like yours. Is that the kind of carbon fiber that you put on on like fiberglass with resin and what not?

Cool thanks for the tip. No the di noc stuff is a textured vinyl. I've wrapped some exterior parts already and done the wood trim on the inside. I could wrap that area without removing it, but I prefer to get the parts off if possible.

Re: Accessory LED Turn signal/brake lights

Soooooooo..... its been a while. I had alot of trouble with the paint and its still a ain in the ass. BUTTT i got one side done, and im lovin it. I decided to hook it up to the brake instead of the blinker because i bought red LEDS.

IF YOU WANT ME TO DO A BUILD THREAD WITH DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS, DO SAY SO
otherwise, its not worth my time. (Ill do one of the right hand side, its more complicated, the left side was pretty straight forward)

So here are the pics

wire on the left is ground (just did a tap into the chassis instead of tappin the ground wire bc soldering is a b**ch) The brake wire is the white and tan one, for both left and right.

I decided to change from the red mesh, i painted it with the black chrome i used on the letters. If you'll notice i also cut out the two or three plastic braces.

(thats my pop's 71 Mark III, ALL WHITE EVERYTHING u dig haha)
