So this is what I found out today with the help of Matt:

-OEM ballast works only with D1S bulbs (has smaller connectors),
-Matt's ebay kit from Canada (have only seen this type once so far) has the small connector for D1S bulbs AND has a connector for 9006 relay,
-normal 9006 HID kit has a ballast with 9006 connectors only.

I will ignore all wiring on the new headlamps, and just reuse the high beam, turn signal and side marker.

Just need to buy the Canadian kit and I'll reuse my 9006 relay kit. Thanks.

Re: aftermarket OEM spec'd HIDs for wk

Looks like they're back up on am-autoparts.com. They're no longer a set but both sides are available at about $90 each.

http://www.am-autoparts.com/2008/Jee...93/515467.html

I have been considering these since Scott posted the link and waiting for them to be in stock but after reading through the replies I have to say I'm a little confused. Some people say they require a D1S bulb/ballast/relay and others say they plan on using a 9006 kit.

If I were to buy the 9006 from http://www.kbcarstuff.com/Xtreme-Dig...ts-p/xt-5k.htm would I have everything I needed to get it all wired up?

Re: aftermarket OEM spec'd HIDs for wk

to have these lights work properly you have a few choices:
1.) buy the oem ballasts and bulbs (d1s) and wire them up according to scotts thread using a relay harness as well
2.) buy a hid kit for d1s bulbs and wire them up with a relay and ignore the wiring on the lights

THE 9006 BULB WILL NOT WORK IN THESE LIGHTS, YOU MUST USE A d1s BULB IN EITHER CASE THAT YOU DO....

my recommendation would be to buy the oem bulbs and ballasts because they will be the most reliable and you will not have quality issues that are often present with buying aftermarket hid kits. if you go the oem route it will also keep your engine compartment looking a lot cleaner cause there will be less wires around and the ballasts are stored in the headlights. hope that helps, i love these headlights they work great and look perfect ive had them for a few months now and have had no issues yet with them your buyin a quality product as far as im concerned.

Re: aftermarket OEM spec'd HIDs for wk

See now that's exactly what I thought until Jeffjs7's post and that's when it got confusing.

Does anybody have any recommended vendors then for D1S kits? I haven't done any extensive searching yet but my quick search yielded a lot of sites that didn't inspire confidence in quality, haha.

Re: aftermarket OEM spec'd HIDs for wk

I wans't sure Scott's write up would work for me, so I chose to buy a ballast with a 9006 connector on it ($80 for 2 ballasts and 2 D1S wires shipped from Canada). Scott's post is here, which now makes sense to me: How to-2008 OEM Jeep Grand Cherokee HID headlights on an 05-07

SO... aftermarket ballast with D1S and 9006 connector plus OEM D1S HIDs is how I am going. This is what MHARDINE has too.

For anybody that missed out these are back in stock on am-autoparts.com... though they more than doubled in price.

Supply and demand

Still a great price haha. Kinda like the WK2 vs WK1 argument, totally worth it for set of HIDs that look and function well. For $350 you are good to go and looking clean and classy, best HL option out there for 08+ if you ask me

Re: aftermarket OEM spec'd HIDs for wk

I completely agree.

Now, the new ones say HID whereas the old ones say Halogen but the plugs look exactly the same.

http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDM-HID-Kit-D1SR-35W

too bad you just couldnt use the 08 headlight and throw your own HID 9006 in it . I know most of us have HID in our 05-07.. O well
