Red face Airbrused carbon fibre...1st attempt

Been wanting to have a go at this for a while now and finally got a spare 10 minutes today to try it.

It's not bad, but I'll need to spend a few hours perfecting it;

Oh well, back to it...

Re: Airbrused carbon fibre...1st attempt

1. cut/apply checkerboard stencil
2. light uniform coat of lighter colored paint
3. north to south dry brush with a course brush to add fiber effect
4. tint top and bottom edges of each square
5. let dry/remove stencil/apply inverse stencil
6. repeat steps but brush east to west and tint E/W edges.

that'd be how i'd do it if i had any clue how to run an airbrush.

Yeah I start off with a metallic silver then apply a graphite colour over it. Although I'm following the methods everyone else is using, it has always bugged me how airbrushed carbon fibre doesnt have the fibrous texture to it.

What you raise in step 3 would do the trick ( similar to painting wood grain) but, airbrush paint dries very quickly, so I'm not sure if it would work.

But this is my first go, so time for experimenting. I definitely think you're on to something with the dry brush, just got to make it work.
