Re: Alcantara dash...done

I will be doing this ast some point or another thanks to you! Awesome stuff. How about a short of list of supplies in the OP of whats needed besides the material? I know youve mentioned it and all, I was just wondering if you could list it or whatever os its so obvious for guys and will make this post that much better Just for myself and guys who want to do exactly this so its a simple print and go to the store. I really love how classy and sporty it looks overall, probably best option there is as far as dash goes.

Plastic = crap
Painting = poo poo
3M = just doesnt work for a dash haha
Alcantara FTMFW!

Alcantara FTMFW!

Thanks man

Basically all you need is the material, Alcantara or microfibre suede. But do make sure you don't get it with the supported backing. The supported backing is harder to use for areas like the dash, it's really meant for seating. It's easy to spot, the backing is like a mesh. You can remove it, if supported stuff is all you can get. Note for anyone in the UK, buy 'faux suede'. For some reason Alcantara costs a fortune over here!

Other than that, the only other things you need are, contact adhesive (the type of thing used in flooring for example). There are different types, aerosol and stuff you brush on. In all honesty you're better with the brush on stuff as it's less mess to clean up. Aerosol works just as well, but you do have to be careful spraying it in your Jeep and be prepared for a clean up operation. To tuck the material in, I used an old credit card.

For cutting, I just used a Stanley knife blade and plenty of them. I just used the blade held between my fingers as it gives you better access for any awkward bits. I hope to get a proper 'how to' up soon and even a video clip too.

Covering a WK dash should be way easier than a WJ one as it doesn't have the recessed bits on the top.

No prob. Your work looks professional. You're like me. It's not enough to look different, but look different as if from the factory. Just a little attention to detail is all it takes to achieve too, right?

Thanks Ron I'm delighted with how it's all turned out. Yeah it's subtle but it makes a big difference. It even looks good from the outside looking in.

You have no idea the inspiration you give me to get home a.s.a.p. and get back into this. I'm dying here. Just at the moment nothing to return to.

I hear you buddy. Off topic but if I was still in Russia, I'd be staying. I sometimes wonder if things will ever get back to normal. Seems to be no end in sight. Everything is going up, except wages! Work wise I'm definitely quieter than I used to be. Don't get me wrong, I'm doing very well in comparison to others in the same line, but my figures have dropped. I may have to go into the Alcantara business full time and travel the world covering dash's lol!

Yeah. Back on topic, You know, with all of these contours on the dash you have to work around, you're building the necessary skills you'll need to do the 3D Punisher skull in the headboard!

Man you think? Hmm could be worth an attempt. I am more confident with it now, than when I first started. I have thought about moulding the Jeep logo on the steering wheel. I'd like to cover the centre section of the steering wheel, but I'd like to keep the Jeep wording too.

But, man I want to do that skull! And I'm def going to get those badges we spoke about

I'm gonna pick up some foam from work, when I go back next week and start experimenting
