It's closely related to the wild Haggis! j/k

It's a type of synthetic suede used in the automotive industry, boats etc. It's extremely expensive, upwards of 70 ($105) a metre. I got a job lot at the rate of only 12.50 ($19) a metre

Expensive? Man, they're raking you over the coals! Alcantara, or micro-fiber, as it can be known in the US, is cheap. I've seen it for a few dollars a yard, specially in that particular shade you're using!

Yeah there was no way in hell I was paying that much Ron. Got a great deal on ebay for 12 a metre. None of the fabric shops sell it here and anyone who does have it, charges a fortune, plus they only ever seem to have small amounts. A neighbour of mine runs a fabric business and she can't get alcantara in the UK. I've a sneaky feeling that part of the expense over here is due to having to import it.

Re: Alcantara madness!!!

Nice work Aaron, looks freaking awesome!

I always wondered if anything could be done with the doors - now I know! There is a leather place up the road from me, so I think I'll get the doors done in white leather where you've got the alcantara to match the seats. Perhaps the tranny tunnel bit too.

I've got loads of plans for the Jeep but gonna have to wait till next year, top tip do not buy a dSLR.

White leather eh? That'll look amazing!

Actually I was thinking about buying dSLR, weird huh? Are you having trouble with yours?

Yeah, I loved the interior on the niners with leather everywhere inside so I want mine to be look as sweet.

Haha, think hard about it... The reason I bought a SLR was to get better detailing shots, but I've spent so much on equipment over the past two years I can barely afford shampoo!!

Thinking of getting a model for a shoot in Spring/Summer with the Jeep after she's been cleaned up after Winter.

A model?! A model, model? If so I'm there dude

I was gonna buy a cheap SLR, for about 150, as I've toyed with the idea for a while. I have some quite advanced telescopes (from my days studying Astronomy) and some of the lenses that were available were major , more than my Jeep!

Yeah, why the heck not!

I'll drop you a line nearer the time if you'd be interested, where'd you be willing to travel? I was thinking near Edinburgh but I could come up to Perth if you know a decent location.

Regarding SLRs, starting out any decent dSLR and a 50mm prime will suit you. It's just when you get into it more and more the cost spirals outta control.

I started with a 500d, got a used 5D which drowned in the rain, then bought a 1D MkIII. 10 FPS, sounds even better than a V8.
Add to that three good lenses, flash, accessories etc. I'm 5.5k down in gear.

Good thing is I've decided to grow my hair long so I'm saving 10 p/m on hair cuts.

Sweet! I can travel anywhere really. Depends on what type of location you're thinking of. I'm out in the sticks so it's fairly secluded.

5500 on cameras?! Damn dude. Mind you I did see a lense for 17,000 once

LMAO @ you not getting your hair cut! Mind you I can't talk, I shave it all off to save money

Re: Alcantara madness!!!

Cool, I'll get in touch nearer the time. Haven't decided on a location so I'm open to ideas. A old abandoned building you can drive up to, ind. est. or a side street was as far as I've thought up.

Hmm, I can guess what you're thoughts are...

Yeah, take that total as a warning... And I still want a ultra wide lens...

I've had shaved 3 top/2 side cuts for as long as I can possibly remember and am sick of them. Everytime I get to a month it sticks out everywhere and I give in, but back in November I decided it was the last time.

So far it's grown a good bit but I do want it to get to shoulder length, then as soon as the mullet is back - bang I'm ready. Business at the front, party at the back - long live the 80's!

Re: Alcantara madness!!!

Haha, yeah sure...

I really want to get a shot like in the Whitesnake video 'Here I Go Again'. Then a few more posed shots - all clothed but if you want something else and the models willing I'll shoot it...

Awesome, man if I was born earlier to live through in the 80's I'd probably look like on of the guys in 'A Flock of Seagulls'. Nowadays I'll just need to settle with long hair.
