Re: Blacked out emblems

I just did the last time because I saw a chip from a rock or something. Besides that I haven't had to redo them.

The 4x4 and laredo? Good question...Haha. I put them somewhere for safe keeping but now that you asked me, I'm not sure where that is.

Re: Blacked out emblems

Yea. Just noticed a chip on the rear passenger side but it's small. Considering I live on an island, drive on the beach frequently, and wash the jeep down at the carwash with the high pressure hoses, I'd say it holds up very well. Plus I painted them last New Years when the temperature was not the greatest for painting. I'm going to fix it when we get back from our trip.

Re: Blacked out emblems

My cousin (1_\/\_WK) has the same rig you do (the silver 4.7) and he keeps going back and forth with doing his wheels. I keep telling him to do it. He was thinking about the Plasti-dip or Matte Black

Re: Blacked out emblems

Nice... sounds like you're doing ok... did you sand them down a bit before painting? Tell your cousin that our jeeps look bad ass with silver/black accents and wouldn't mind a twin on some island somewhere haha I am going to paint my rims black with plasti dip but im waiting for new tires... gonna get the same set up as you, when all is said and done... should be a bad ass look'n rig.

ps. skirts are made for girls, not jeeps. hahaha

Re: Blacked out emblems

Nah, but if there are any imperfections you can ge the filler primer and sand. Up to you, like I said it wasn't the best conditions so I didn't really take the time I really needed to. I'll pass the comment on to him and tell him to keep an eye out for a thread for your rim painting. haha, he actually lives up in harrisonburg, va though. I think it will look pretty sick when it's all done though. I don't understand the skirt comment? But I did notice your avatar is rocking a skirt.

Hmmm... and how old is the paint job? I won't pretend to know anything about this plasti-coat/dipp/whatever, but...

I've painted so many sets of rims I lost count. I'm not joking nor exaggerating. I found what I consider to be the hands-down BEST/STRONGEST/LONGEST-LASTING/AMAZING paint ever. The best example I can give is I put a light coat of this paint on a set of rims that went on my 90 VW Golf. I cleaned the rims with a strong cleanser and steel wool, no primer, then shot a very light coat of paint, in October no less. I let them dry and mounted the tires and drove on them through 3 extreme Michigan winters/summers. Not only that, any time I needed to remove a rim, I tossed it around like it was the spare donut. I basically treated these wheels like crap. Shot them with high-pressure wash, caked on brake-dust, etc. Not a chip, fade, nor scratch. Never. The day I sold the car they looked fresh-painted(3 years later). These were Ronal brand honeycomb style rims. A friend who laughed at me the whole time for using a "rattle can" had the BBS rims on his Trans-Am GTA professionally painted at the same time as his car(matching blue inserts, chrome lip), and not even 1 year later, they looked like crappola. I've tried a few times to start a discussion about this brand of paint on JeepGarage, but no one seemed interested, so I guess this will remain my little secret! lol Seriously, anyone considering a mod that includes painting something, specially exterior pieces that see a lot of abuse, let me know. Message me and I'll let you in on the info. Or you can search my posts and try to find it. Maybe plus rep for the first one to post the answer?

Spill the beans Ron! I need to know. I'm just getting round to finally doing my wheels and I'm needing the toughest there is. Especially with our Scottish winters and the amount of grit the local authority lay down. There's still stuff here from last year!
