Re: Blackout head/tail lights legal in MD?

I saw someone on here do a Photoshop edit with tinted headlights and painting the grill to match the body color, and it looked pretty nice. I have the Laredo in dark charcoal, and plan on blacking everything out, as in the rims, grill, and lights. Now that ya'll mention it, I never thought to just paint the housing black, which sounds pretty nice. Now how would I do that? As far as tint or paint, I was going to coat it with a few layers of paint, just enough to not go all the way blacked out.

To paint the inside of the head-lamp housing, i'd take it to a professional. I haven't looked at the headlights closely, but I imagine that you have to bake the headlamps to take the housing apart; it is not snapped together.

Baking the head-lamps is easy enough but very critical. If you do not seal them properly you will have mositure in them. And, with the wet winters, wet springs and hot-humid summers in Maryland, you will not be happy.

If I am wrong and it is snapped together then that makes this process easier.

Regardless of how you get them apart, you just need to properly prep the housing surface (remove all debris, oils, grease - everything), carefully paint any color you wish (multiple passes, wet-sanding) and properly finish. Same as any paint job.

FatherPaul: That is the picture that I was talking about. Your photoshop edit has inspired me..I'll see what I can find out down here and try and get that setup done.

MHassler: Got your PM, but I guess that I need at least 10 more posts before I can reply to PM's. But I'll be looking around down here, and I'll keep you updated on what I find out. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Blackout head/tail lights legal in MD?

Ive had my tail lights blacked out for well over a year. They are BLACK... no smoked shit here. lol. I drive around the Baltimore county area all the time, no issues. they need to be done well, and you need to emit enough light. It's about the light output, not about the color of the lenses themselves.

Re: Blackout head/tail lights legal in MD?

I got a ticket for a tinted lincese tag by the Atlanta police going to court on it next month. Ive had it on my jeep for 5 years never a problem and got speeding ticket in the past they never said a thing. I am glad I did not tint my taillights. Oh the police suck too.
