Love it! Will you take a pic a bit further back? Also, what do you mean by soak the edges? I thought you just apply PD and peel tape instantly

Here's one a little further back. When I say soak the edges, I mean lay the final coat on real thick and peel the tape immediately.

Re: calling all plasti-dippers......

doing chrome is the easiest thing to do. i did the front molding, door trim, 4x4 badge and antenna ring. tape helps with clean up. i taped about an inch or so away from what i was spraying. then the pd peals right off but stays on the chrome

Re: calling all plasti-dippers......

Just a couple important things I have learned since experimenting with the whole jeep dip.

Just a heads up....

Plasti dip does not like blue painters tape. I taped off my black window trim because I wanted to keep it black and the tape ripped off allot of the black PD, so now its chrome again.

Plasti dip also pealed clear and paint off of several parts that I had color matched. like my 3rd brake light, lower grille chrome and rear bumper chrome strip. As well as some of the VHT I used on my tails.

Now keep in mind that this is the PD that is sold by the gallon and has some sort of thinner or reducer added to it. So I am not sure if the rattle cans will have the same effect. either way I would try to avoid using it over those types of things.

Ok what if you wanna gloss? Should you paint and then go over with glossifier in the same day? Or re-tape?

PD dries really quickly. Just PD your base coat and when it dries spray the Glossifier. Remeber to leave a good size gap between your trim and tape.

I suggest using the green Frog Tape... Reinforced glue strip on the outer edges that doesnt allow paint to bleed under the tape or stick to the edges... It works much better than the blue. You also want to peel the tape before the plasti dip completley dries.

And another tip... To reduce the textured appearance of PD to a nice smooth finish, just sit your cans in a window sill in direct sunlight to heat them up to about 85-90 degrees. This will produce a finer mist from the nozzle and lays very flat upon drying, just make sure not to put heavy coats, as the warm PD will run slightly easier.

Re: calling all plasti-dippers......

Frog tape is complete waste when using PD. If you were using paint or VHT, yes but with PD blue tape is fine. You also do not need to peel the tape when the PD is wet if you space your tape far enough away from the trim. There is no need to tape right up to the trim. Leave yourself 2-3 inches between your tape and trim and when you peel the over-spray off it will cut perfectly to the trim.

How is it a waste when I get perfectly clean lines every time? withought wasting time peeling off over spray, or trying to run a razor across my paint where PD and tape meet? And what if they are trying to do stripes down their hood, or putting PD anywhere else besides where their painting surface and trim meet? If you are a perfectionist like me and want the job done right, then Frog Tape isn't a waste at all.
