Chrome Bumper Insert?

So I am in the process of picking up pieces to black out the JGC like so many others. I have a Limited, which means I have a chrome bumper insert (it's raining right now in TX so here's a pick from JustForJeeps 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Chrome Bumper Insert - Mopar # 68141939AC & 68143105AC #68143105AC). It's plastic chrome, so can't powder coat - I'm debating vinyl wrapping it, or maybe some PlastiDip. Has anyone tried either of these? Pics? I'm a bit curious how this might turn out and how it will hold up as it's in the front there...

If all else fails, a black plastic insert from the Laredo is like $60 /shrug

Do you happen to know the part number for that black Laredo insert?

It's not too hard to replace. You need to take the front bumper off to get to it. I did encounter a few plastic tabs on the chrome applique that were a bit stubborn. Just make sure you place the bumper somewhere safe while you remove it. I had mine on a few towels on the ground as I worked on it. Have done this 2x before but I guess there was a rock under one of the towels. Left a spider web crack in the paint/clear coat. I did a fairly poor job covering it up, so probably going to the shop to touch it up at some point.

5RG10TZZAA is the part number for the Altitude piece. The dealer quoted me $700 for it a few days ago (I was in there and just asked for kicks). This was spot on and consistent with a few other posts about this piece as well. JustforJeeps and a few other online sites (WK2 Paintable Fascia Grill Surround (Altitude) #5RG10TZZAA) have it for ~$500 which is utterly absurd when you consider the chrome one cost half of that and the Laredo one is like $50.

My 15' Limited only has 9k miles on it at this point. When I took the chrome piece off, it already had quite a few dings/chips in it from rocks. Made me kind of question the long term reliability of that piece (or a gloss black piece) over the years I plan to keep the car. Also why PlastiDip and probably Vinyl wrap are not good solutions. Very happy right now with the Laredo model in the front.

Can the Laredo model piece be painted?

Re: Chrome Bumper Insert?

You'll find a 50/50 split in the answer. Many people will tell you any of the textures prices can be sanded/painted with no issues. Other shops won't touch it.

I personally went to 4-5 shops that wanted nothing to do with painting textured pieces.

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited-Body Side Moldings

Any recommendations for color-matched bodyside moldings? I received a set from bodysidemolding.com but they were about .5" wide and.75" deep. Very large an obtrusive. Looking for a molding that is more low-profile. About 1" wide by .25" or .5" deep. Have done extensive searches but can't seem to find the right one. Have to be careful not to confuse the Grand Cherokee molding w/ the Cherokee one. I was told that they are different.
